23 Pics - Kissing the Ground - fall garden, Integrity - Stewardship
Christopher and Kim Update September 28, 2020
Wendy, sorry to hear about your dizziness! I hope that Epley maneuver helps. I had some brief dizzy spells a couple years ago. Great job on Josh’s running and soccer! We appreciate the update.
We watched Integrity Saturday while Courtney and Seth did a bike race up East Canyon. I grabbed one pic off of Instragram. Cayson played in the morning with Integrity, reading books and building towers and such. After playing, she looked Cayson in the eyes and said sincerely, “Thank you for playing with me.” It was touching and cute. Pics below. She also spent time with Amber and the bunnies.
Kim and Krystal spent the morning (and into the afternoon) making two huge batches of spaghetti sauce. Integrity and I painted more of the baker’s clay figures that we made last week. Then Saturday evening we had Corin and Kylie over for dinner - pizza and salad since the stovetop was still occupied with large pots of spaghetti sauce. Corin helped us string some lights on the trellis - see picture below. Corin and I also worked for Shane some on Tuesday, and then for his next door neighbor, and then all day Thursday for Grandma and Grandpa.
Wednesday we took Boris and Krystal out for Boris’s birthday (which was the week before). We went to Mi Ranchito. It was nice to talk with them.
Kim and Camden and Cayson and I watched the documentary “Kiss the Ground” and really enjoyed it. The last half really focuses on a gardening solution to climate change. It presents the problem of our excess CO2 in the atmosphere, and some causes. And then presents one solution that you can take action on in your own yard. Kim kept saying, “Well, we are doing that in our yard” or “We are doing our part”. That is true, and it has a small effect because we only have a quarter acre. It is on Netflix - and here is the website below for the organization that produced it.
Prosperity Poem 92 is about Stewardship - You can see it below with the winning background.
We added some promises for Choosing the Right, to Grandma’s website.
Kim is still working late many afternoons. I’m busy with rocks, yard work, business, scanning old photos and family history, and more. We did have Camden on the weekend - and he went fishing and rock climbing with his friend Jayden on Saturday. Aaron came to our home church Sunday - we start going to church every week after General Conference, which is this upcoming weekend.
Have a super week!
Christopher and Kim
P.S. Update 066 from Christine and Kadan below
Once again it has been a minute since I have emailed out an update, but we are doing fine.
Derik and I worked consistently on the boat 2-3 times a week until we finally finished it. Last weekend we took it out to the lake for the test run and she did well. Runs well, floats (as it should), and is all-around pretty enjoyable! It even came with an old shade structure that we thought was in rough shape but actually cleaned up alright and gave us some nice shade for the 4 hours or so that we were out on the lake.
Derik spent the time fishing with his little telescoping rod that he keeps in the glove box of his truck, and he actually caught a decent sized fish on it! I went magnet fishing but never actually pulled anything up unfortunately. Christine spent the whole time reading her book, which is her favorite boating activity. The shift knob did give us a little trouble right at the end, but besides that the trip went much smoother than the last two with the old boat.
This weekend, we attempted a 72-hour fast. The idea is that your body uses your reserves for energy in the first 24 hours (roughly), but then your body enters ketosis, where the body converts fat cells into energy. You drink lots of water, but no calories. Christine got a little sick by the end of the first day and threw up all her water, then she didn't feel good by the middle of the second day so she ate lunch. She made it about 40 hours. I kept fasting for the second day, and made it 48 hours. I had decided by this point not to keep going until we were better prepared to provide electrolytes and minerals to our bodies during the fast. My legs were aching pretty bad by the end of the second day. Christine treated me to a steak dinner that night and it was quite enjoyable after not eating for 48 hours. Longest I've ever been on a fast. We both lost weight.. hopefully it stays off. We will likely try again in a month or so after doing more research.
One of my co-workers is moving in about a month, so my manager has offered me his position when he leaves. I'm still technically part time right now, but transitioning into this position will give me a salary (with much better total monthly pay), so I readily accepted. As it is, we seem to be barely keeping up with expenses, so hopefully we'll be able to save a little each month once I get into that position. I'm not super keen on the inflexibility of it, but it's a means to an end. It will be good for our finances, even if it means I can't get as much time off.
I just sold my motorcycle today. I wasn't riding it as much as I thought I would, and I think it's because I just don't love it. I will wait and buy a motorcycle that I love when the time is right and I can afford it. For now, I'd rather have the money than have the bike sit all winter.
Hope everyone is doing well! Keep on keepin' on!
Kadan and Christine
