Updates on Dad ~ June 18, 2015

Scott was sending out email updates to the family (kids and extended) ...

10:42 am

Good news, Lamar is out of sedation and is responding to commands. He appears to recognize and understand what is going on. He is frustrated that he is still unable to communicate and that his limbs are tethered to avoid pulling out the many tubes going into and out of his body.
He can nod, blink or squeeze to communicate but he is still in a fog due to the medication.

He is breathing on his own but still has the tubes down his throat.

I will send some of you a photo you can post on Facebook.

They just removed the breathing tube. He is resting comfortably and is less agitated.

They took him out of sedation a little to test his neurological function. He was agitated and did not respond to commands or seem to understand. The biggest concern is what, if any, brain damage has occurred. The sedation and cooling of the body core is supposed to give the brain time and energy to heal. They will periodically bring him out of sedation to see if there is any recognizable progress.

He will have the breathing tube in until he can recognize and respond to commands.

The typical stay for this type of event is 7 days.

His heart is moderately impaired, which is good because most are significantly impaired when this happens. His heart rate and blood pressure are strong.
