Shane&Alicia - April Unloading Update

Who is available to help us unload a moving truck in Lindon in mid July?!!

Just Kidding!!!

We're totally joking, we are using movers so we don't need help unloading. But we ARE moving back to Utah, currently planning on sometime in mid-July.

Not un-similar to Derek (thanks for the update Derek and others!), my job situation has been tenuous for several months. I haven't enjoyed my new responsibilities, and I have doubts about the viability of the company as well (un-similar to Derek). So although we'll be walking away from a crazy amount of retention money, we feel it is the right time to switch employers.

I'll be joining a company called SimpleNexus, a software company out of Lehi (in Thanksgiving Point, along with everybody else). The role will be VP of Product, leading their Product and UX teams. I interviewed on-site with them the week before last, and was very impressed. We also applied to many companies here in the Bay Area (and others in Utah), but this one made a strong offer and we felt it was the right fit.

So we are very excited to come back closer to all of you, but it will be hard to leave as well. We've really loved the Bay Area, and it will be tough to leave our friends in the ward and other circles.

We've already given notice to our renters, we'll have all of June and the first half of July to redo a few things at the Lindon house before we move back. I'll fly back and forth and stay with Mom and Dad while there (thanks Mom and Dad!), as I start the new gig May 6 but we don't want to move the family until school, Dance Recital, Girls Camp, etc. are wrapped up.

Other things going on:

  • Pneumonia -- Alicia is recovering well from the double pneumonia, and is almost back to normal.
  • Alicia's Dad flew out to help us -- With Alicia recovering from pneumonia, I didn't want to leave her, but I didn't want to lose this job opportunity either (they were interview several candidates at once to make a decision before spring break). So David was kind enough to cross paths with me in the air and help out Leashee while I was in Utah.
  • Spring Break -- Kids were off of school from April 1 to April 5.
  • "Take your kids to work day" on April 1 -- games, food, facepainting (Rella asked for Groucho Marx, ended up looking like my coworker Jones), t-shirt making. Everybody who brought kids to work really enjoyed it. Those that don't currently have kids may choose to be sterile for life.

  • French Foreign Exchange Student -- On April 3 we picked up Clara, who will stay with us for 2 weeks! We've already taken her to quite a few places, and now is shadowing Adria at her classes at school. She's been great, very polite and she and Adria are getting along very well.
  • Oakland Temple Open House -- We're ramping up volunteer efforts and invitations to the temple Open House from May 11 to June 1.
  • Home sick with a fever and headaches -- My boss probably thinks I'm just lazy already, but I was home sick most of the day and tomorrow looks likely too :(
