Messages From Mom - August 2023

 Sat. Aug. 18, 2023,

Hi Kids,

  • Rella is having her birthday this morning.  She will be 17 on Thurs.  Alicia and Rella created such a fun party theme.  Rella invited 4 friends from her old ward/school.  Cute digital invitations  to a "Garden Party."  Rella wanted a garden party/English Tea.  They all wore dresses.  It was held out on their patio.  Alicia and Rella had bought several bouquets of flowers and a set of pretty little bud vases--each with a different pattern and style.  The girls chose which vase they wanted.  I gather some flowers and greenery around the yard this morning.  They had asked me to give a little mini-class on flower arranging tips while they each created their little bouquets to take home.

Alicia set up the inside table with little cucumber sandwiches and little sandwich rollups and fresh fruit and salad and a three-tiered fancy tower of desserts.

They each received a gift box of water colors and special art paper and are now creating water-color masterpieces, on the other table out on the deck.

Cute ideas for a girl's party!  Rella made big beautiful tissue paper flowers for decorations.

  • Last night the ward choir director held a barbecue for all the choir people and their families.  It sprinkled a few drops, then turned our nice.  They have an older smaller home, so it would have been hard to fit everyone inside if it had rained more.  They had a big yard with a tramp and a playhouse, etc. which was nice for all the kids.  They had 2 of the picnic tables with the attached benches.  I was sitting on one of those.  When the last person sat down, the table and bench collapsed and dumped us all.  I fell but was not hurt, thank goodness.  But today my shoulder and left leg are sore.  But it was a nice evening and good opportunity to visit with some people.  Not a huge number came.  It was nice of them to host it, and for entire families.  They even advertised it for anyone that had ever been in choir or ever wanted to come to choir!

It's been so long since I have written that I don't remember all that has happened.

I received another new calling:  On the RS Service Committee, over ward missionaries, to write to them and to get a blurb from one of them to put in the ward's monthly newsletter.  We have 14 young missionaries serving from our ward!  A couple have not left yet, but have calls.  I am creating a list and need to call some parents whom I haven't yet and get information about their son/daughter.

We received the wedding invitation for your cousin Jason's son Josh.  I don't think they are sending invitations to each of you, but just wanted us to tell you to come:  Sat., Sept. 23 at 2702 E. Evergreen Ave. (3435 S.)  They are aiming for an outdoor reception----chancing that late in the year.  Reception line begins 7 p.m. with Dancing & Festivities beginning at 7 p.m.      6 to 9 p.m.    The wedding is on your cousin Emily's birthday.  He is marrying Natilee Bly Hatch.  She is from Arizona and they will have an open house there on the 28th of Oct.  Come if you can.

love,  Mom
