Hey there from the Blackham Bunch -
so
... snow... did you all get hit? Sunday morning we woke up to another layer and
it continued to come down all morning. It was pretty bad, in fact several of
the wards canceled church (not ours though). The wind had pushed the snow into
interesting drifts, leaving some sections bare to the grass, and other places
piled up several feet. We had a bunch of snow right up against the front door.
Our snowblower has gotten a lot of use this year.
The
boys have been off track here a couple weeks now, with one more week to go. I
signed them up for bowling while they’re out, that’s two hours every Tuesday
and Thursday. They never seem to tire of it and have done it every time they’ve
been off track for over a year now.
We’ve been playing a lot of games, pulled out the “Creepy Crawler
Bugmaker” which I remember from my childhood days, and made flubber too. The
boys have really been enjoying basketball, even though they get toasted every
game! The younger boys had their last games on Saturday, Landon has his last game
in a couple weeks. Gray will be happy to have his Saturdays back.
We
had a fun weekend. Gray and I went out on Thursday evening to see a show at
Desert Star playhouse “My Valley Fair Lady”. Gray took Friday off and we
started the day going out to breakfast with all the kids. Then we went downtown
to “Discovery Gateway” and the kids enjoyed it. It was funny to see how each
child was drawn to certain things. Daddy took the older boys to Gasoline Alley
for a bit, then Gray and I hit a movie in the evening, “27 Dresses” which was
cute. Gray and I went to Market Street Grill for dinner on Saturday ... three
dates in three days!
We’ve
had a little bit of sickness here, nothing too bad. Some runny noses, sniffles,
coughing. Cooper’s awakened a couple nights with an earache, but it doesn’t
seem to bother him during the day.
Gray’s been feeling under the weather for a couple days now, hope he can
shake it. We have an appointment for Callahan up at Primary Children’s Hospital
on Friday to see if we can try and get his athlete’s foot cleared up.
That’s
basically what’s been going on with us.

and da boys
Boy, yesterday I took the babies out in the stroller for a
walk around the block. I had a jacket and a quilt around the kids, cool but
nice. We had to maneuver a bit here and there around snow, walks that hadn’t
been shoveled, but made it around ok. Then the snow today! Yuck. My eyes are
tired of the white everywhere.
Anyway, Mom asked for an update so ...
Thursday Gray was home early enough that we took the family
out to dinner at Sizzlers. It was pretty packed, so we were actually spread
across two tables, which actually turned out to be a good thing. Divide and
conquer works!
Gray went out for our traditional Friday night date,
Saturday we spent at a funeral for Gray’s Aunt on his Dad’s side. A suicide,
very sad.
We’ve been trying to plan what to do for Valentines, sure that places will be packed on the 14th. So Gray and I went out to one of our favorite places for an early celebration. Grayson was cute as he told me “Now you realize, THIS is Valentine’s Day” ... not wanting me to feel bad if nothing big happens on the actual day. I’ve been teasing him about it ever since, I’ll give him a kiss and say “Now you realize, that was Valentine’s Day!” Well, we’ve both been keeping up the joke with little gifts each day. He brought me a single red rose on Monday, and a box of chocolates (hand picked ... only the kinds I like) yesterday.
We made sugar cookies the other day. I’ve always been hesitant to make sugar cookies, thinking they are too much work and too difficult to roll and cut and transfer to the cookie sheet, then decorate, etc. BUT, I have overcome that and am now making sugar cookies for each holiday.
While I’ve liked making and decorating (and eating) cookies, I wasn’t too excited about creating the kids Valentine’s day boxes. I’ve attached a picture of my quick fix idea.
Monday night we went bowling with the kids. Gray went to the
bowling alley straight from work, it was pretty busy so he held a place while I
packed up the kids and drove out. We actually had several free coupons from
each time the kids have been involved in the off-track bowling. Colton was the
one who got into it the most. He ended up taking my turn, Gray’s turn, and
after the first few times, Cooper’s turn (as he lost interest). He wanted to
take everyone else’s turn too. They have the little ramp that we would put the
ball on, and then he would push it (often pushing before we even had the ball
in place). He would jump up and down as the ball would hit the pins. As we had
driven separately, I took the two babies home after the first game and let
Daddy and the older boys stay to play another round without infant
interruption.
Monday, the kids started back to school. It is nice being
back on a schedule, although I will miss the sleeping in.
So that’s our update. Hope we all survive the snow!
