From Dad (Feb 2013)

23 Feb 2013

Dear Kids

Here’s Dad with another letter. My last letter to all our kids was written in Jan 2009, so it’s been quite awhile. I did write a letter to McKenna last week. It is her birthday today, so she is no longer a teenager.

All the new missionaries and new missions are in the news. The Church News today had a list of all the new mission presidents. Our past neighbor, Leif Erickson, is in the list, going to preside over a mission in Africa. He has been a stake president in the Boston area.

The newspaper (Deseret News) today mentioned 58 new missions, and now over 60,000 missionaries, with the number of missions now at 405. There will be 7 new missions in Brazil, and 5 in the Philippines.

The Church News had another article (printed below) about youth helping adults in their Family History, typing information for older people who can’t type themselves, or who have no computers: Green Arrow Project.

We’ve still been heading downtown one day each week to work on the Pioneer Trail. And we’re also doing a lot of work on Family Search support. I’m still doing my phone shift each Friday. There is a lot of activity in the new Family Tree. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can go to FamilySearch.org, and sign in, and click on Family Tree.

We’ve also been working each day on the dropbox photo project. I am adding in a new year each time I work on it: about 4-5 days a week. So far we have the years: 1969, 1971-1989, and 2011-2013. We’ll continue to fill in the other years, one year at a time. Each year has a section with all our current ages for the year, and then a summary of events for the year. I correlate this list with the photos for each year that Wendy and Mom have organized. When there is a particular photo that fits in with the events, then I put a link in the index to the photo. Test it out because Margie doesn't think the link to a photo works outside of our computer.

I also put in other links to other journal items. Photo links for a particular year may include the new year’s baby for the year, birthdays, family reunions, trips, camping, Easter, Halloween, Christmas, etc.

You should all have access to this dropbox folder. If you have anything you would like to add to the index, you can add it, or let us know, and we can add it. We’re not entirely sure that the links will work for everyone, so try them out.

We got an invitation to Remington’s baptism, in Bountiful. It will be next Saturday.

Today is Saturday, and we are scheduled to meet Shane and Alicia at the Outback Restaurant on 13th East for dinner at 5:30. We had quite a blizzard this morning, and it looks like it laid down 2-3 inches of new snow. It’s still coming down, but it’s tapering off.

We went to see the movie Lincoln on Thursday afternoon---my first time in a movie theater for years.

That’s all the news for now.

We love you all.
Love, Dad

Article in Church news (Cottonwood Heights stake) about youth helping older members in the ward with genealogy and computers. Links to lots of interesting articles below (new mission presidents to see if you know someone) if you don't take Church News..
