D&D Update (September 2019)

Hey Family,

We were SO sorry to hear about Mom's fall! That will be a tough recovery - but we can try to help out with food and house things! Shane mentioned Calder's funny comments when he heard the news. I had the girls at Cabela's last night (buying Danielle a special gift (a-salt-rifle -- it's a bug killer, a gun that shoots salt to kill spiders and flies :)) while Danielle was getting a haircut and she texted me that Mom had broken her wrist. I told the girls what happened and Ani said, "I'll bet Grandpa told Grandma: "Don't break your bones Mr. Jones!" but this time she actually did!" So sorry to hear that. We called and talked with Mom last night on the Alexa and gave her well-wishes. It's nice to call on the Echo so the whole family can gather around and talk on the big speaker.

Things are going well with us. I'm teaching my class at UVU again this semester, and it is WAY easier the second semester. The curriculum is already written (I wrote it all the first semester) so the amount of work I have to do is much less. I also have made most of the rookie teaching mistakes last time so this time around is a smoother ride for me and the students. :) I have a deaf student, so it's been interesting to see into Wendy and Rick's interpreting world a bit. I had 25 students last semester, and this time I only have 15 -- but there are two interpreters and one or two transcriptionists for the deaf student. At first it was weird for me to have someone typing every word I was teaching, and it made me feel like I had to really stay focused, but I've gotten used to it. Teaching has been a nice break from my day job and has helped me to make new contacts and feel a little more diversified in my career. I asked Shane to come guest lecture in my class and he's been kind enough to accept so we'll do that in a couple weeks. The students love hearing from guests.

I've worked for the Church for 10 years now, and one regret I have is that I haven't kept a great professional network outside of Church employment. I decided a while back to reach out to a few people outside of my organization. One of those called me recently and invited me to apply for a Director role at Western Governor's University. I applied but didn't think much of it, but they had me come in for two initial interviews last week. They invited me back for 4 more today, and one more next week. I think I'd probably stay here (I'm really liking my current role) even if I was offered the job, but it's good experience to interview and make connections independent of the outcome. I don't do it enough actually.

The girls are loving school and are truly excited to go. We were super worried how Noelle would do, but she loves it and does great! Sometimes when Danielle comes to pick her up, she just acts like she can't hear her and keeps playing with her friends. :) The kids are doing lots of playdates lately and we're feeling good about our decision to stay in our house for a few more years (we had been looking at other homes for a while when we weren't sure what to do about schools (since they changed our boundaries)). We feel very fortunate with our neighborhood, and our home and our schools right now -- feels right.

We're so glad to have Shane and Alicia back and it's been great to spend time with them a bit lately! We went to Lagoon with them a few weeks ago (Ani and me), and we've been to their cute house recently. It's looking so good! When we were over there, I just noticed that Adria had passed up Danielle in height!

We always have a list of about 10 projects to do, but right now we're saving up for a deck. We recently got me a digital piano to record my pop-cover album (hence my crazy Instagram pics lately), and we put that in our master bedroom, and moved the swing we had there to the front porch. Chris and Kim and Cayson, and Mom and Dad came Sunday for our primary program and we had a little brunch afterwards. Dad helped me and Danielle in nursery afterwards and saw how we wrangle 10+ 3-year-olds with Disney quizzes, bubbles and snacks. :)

We're ready for Fall and cooler weather. Hope everyone is doing great! I'll attach some pics.

Love you all!
