Hi Family,
Thanks for your family updates. We had a good family week, getting to see several of our kids and grandkids.
- Sat. July 3, Shane & Alicia's family came for a visit. Picked some apricots as theirs weren't quite ripe yet.
- Mon. July 5, Chris and Kim took us out to dinner at La Cocina for Father's Day gift.
- Wed. Derek and Danielle's family came for the day, helping us with projects, decorating, and repairs.
- Thurs. Chris came and helped for the day on our job list, as he does every week. I went to the periodontist and had my 3rd tooth implant started and paid another $2,200! Take good care of your teeth---these repairs are expensive!!
- Fri. Scott and Amy had invited us to join them for dinner and Patsy Cline musical at Hale Theater. Fun evening! I love Hale Theater, love to eat, and love to spend time with family--so it scored on all three!
- Sunday (yesterday), church completely back to normal---having Sacrament at the first of the meeting, no more Deacons with gloves, tongs, or masks, etc. They still do purell first.
- We have bottled 21 quarts of apricots thus far and still have many more----except the squirrel is trying to get them all before we do. I try to shoo him away and he just stares me in the face, totally unafraid, and laughs at me!! Stop by soon if you want some fresh apricots to eat.
- Tomorrow Chris is coming to work here, before their California trip on Fri.
- We will be joining the Jensen's annual "Father's Day Flee" this year. We will leave Thurs. afternoon and get home on Sat.
I'm probably forgetting something!
Have a wonderful week everyone! We love you!

- From Chris: Thanks for the update! Plenty of apricots here also, ha ha. So I won’t bring any to you, but I will bring a fish that was swimming in the water this morning.

New family moving into our ward knows Shane. They haven't moved in yet, but have started attending. They have purchased the Mendenhall's home (across from Joan and Craig Anderson's home--where Jewells used to live). Shaun Mendenhall is the plastic surgeon/hand surgeon. They sure hate to leave the ward, but he has been offered his dream job back East somewhere. The new family is President Woodward's son Nate. His dad was our stake president years ago. Nate and his wife Megan (Pugh) said they took art classes with Shane at Cottonwood.
Jeni said a girl that she went to Cottonwood with just died from Covid, leaving many children, the youngest around 3.
We got to see all of our kids this past week except Chris, who was on vacation in Calif. We had a great time with Wendy's family at their annual Father's Day Flee. D & D's family came for the afternoon Wed. to help us out. Scott stopped by for a visit after the big storm that evening. Linthorsts next door and George and Michelle Cannon and Joy Powell had flooding in their basement (and probably others we didn't hear about) from the brief but intense rain. Shane and Alicia came Fri. evening for dinner and to talk house plans and choices. Early birthday dinner for Alicia. I made lasagna for the first time in about 14 years--since Dad was diagnosed with Celiac. I cooked up a pan of Ziti for Dad to eat (that Jen makes for him). They left the kids home this time. Then we planed some Progressive Rummy. Sat. evening we had a delicious ribs meal with Jen and Gray's family, with such tender meat! They sent some home with us. We played Progressive Rummy with Landon and Sol and Jeni.
Diabetes doctor last Thurs. My A1c was up some----from 5.7 on my previous visit to 6 this time. I go to the periodontist this coming Thurs. for the 3-week checkup for my implant #3 and my 3-month checkup for implant #2. So it eliminates 1 visit!
Have a great week! We love you all!
Mom
- From Wendy~ Thanks for the update mom! That's so sad about the girl Jeni knows. What was her name? From Shane~Yes, very sad to hear about Malai Jackman! Cool to hear that Nate and Megan are moving in -- yes, I remember them both.
- From Derek ~I saw my friend Tanji Jackman (Norlander) make a FB post about losing her older sister to Covid. Jen, was your friend a Jackman?
- From Jen: Yes, Malai Jackman (Copling). She and her family live back East, Missouri. She was a dancer in high school, and was super involved in the local dance company there. 12 kids, the older ones married (a couple grandkids) down to their most recent baby just a few years ago. We weren't close in high school (she was in the musicals, as the dance company always came in for the dance numbers) but were FB friends. Not sure of vaccine status, but I'm pretty sure if she had been vaccinated, that would have been posted.
- From Derek~ From the FB post that Tanji made, she said that it could have been prevented, so I'm guessing her sister was not vaccinated. Wow - such a tragic illness!
- From Jen ~ Even more tragic news last night. That accident in Fillmore, the duststorm. Coach Sawyer (had been head coach at West Jordan until last month when they moved to St. George) lost his wife and two of this three children, also his brother and nephew. They were returning from a trip to Bear Lake. Coach wasn't with them, as he had games over the weekend. The three year old was the only one in the car to survive, and he was life flighted to Primary Children's last night. Mason is with him. I knew Kortni from before, when Callahan was playing ball, her brother Jared was on the team and they played together for years and the Atkinson family was always there in full for the games. I remember when I first came to a WJ basketball thing and Kortni waved to me and then I realized she was married to the coach. The kids were always around, Mason would bring them to games and practices. Riggs was 6 (would have turned seven next month), Blue (in the hospital, turns four next week) and Frankie (little girl) had just turned two. Kortni just had her 30th birthday and 8th wedding anniversary (they just got back from Cabo for an anniversary trip). Such a cute family, my heart just breaks for Mason and Blue and the extended families.
- From Derek~I can't believe the heartbreaking loss of that coach. Wow - we had read about the dust storm and that several people were killed, but that is an unbelievable tragedy.
