September 2021 - Messages From Mom

Friday, Sept. 10, 2021
  • We just got a Zillow notification email that Donaldson's home is newly listed for sale for $550,000. Vivian died a few years ago. They had always planned on moving to Florida, where they had relatives. I don't know what Barry's plans are though.
  • Yesterday we went to LaMar's 66th High School Reunion (South High class of 1955) at Cottonwood Country Club. There was one classmate there from Seattle who knew John and Melva Westra.
  • Last night I went to a RS Fall Tasting Party and service project in the back yard of a home on Shenandoah. I had a nice time.
  • Chris came yesterday and worked all day for us, which is always much appreciated. He won't be able to come next week because they are going on one of their 2-day get-aways.
  • We will bottle some peaches and tomatoes today.
  • Nelva had cataract surgery on one eye.
  • We enjoyed Stephanie's email about their mission in Texas (Dale & Stephanie). If anyone is interested, I can forward it.
  • Last Sat. we went to lunch with Shane & Alicia's family at Red Robin. They picked us up and came in and visited a bit afterwards.
  • I have cleaned out our "Toy Cupboard" of 26 years and repurposed it, which will be nice.

Love, Mom

Hi Kids,

Alicia, thanks for your nice update and pictures-----I hadn't heard most of all that is going on with your family!

Chris, thanks for your nice letter also. And we love Jen's and Wendy's whenever we get them and anyone else who writes. So great to hear all about your busy lives!

Friday we went to an outdoor wedding for the son of our former Bishop, Bishop Campbell (who is now a counselor in the stake presidency. It rained on the wedding, but not extremely hard and at least the patio was covered. I felt bad for them as everything was so lovely and they had worked so hard.

Wendy, you could get us two tickets to the Sat. Distinguished YW event in Draper and I can reimburse you. This the event where they ask the girls questions?

I would like to see Jaiden's musical and Janelle's farewell, though Dad says he doesn't know if he wants to make the long drive again that soon, since we are coming next Mon. We would have to change a dental appointment or leave Sun. after the farewell. I'm sure Janika and Brandon would be coming and would need a bedroom. We'll think on it---mainly depends on Dad.

I was hoping that Janelle would get to go to the physical MTC, so much more fun to be with other young missionaries than just do language lessons online. I thought that would probably happen by Nov., but then Covid got so bad again----but at least they have been vaccinated.

I have a bridal shower tomorrow night for the two sisters next door that are getting married in Oct. and Nov. I need to find out those wedding reception dates. I think I will just write them both a check, but wish I had a couple nice cards to put the checks in. We always hate to go to a store to get something, since we are used to always having everything ahead!

We delivered containers of tomatoes to 4 people on our way to Chris and Kim's for dinner yesterday. Then we stopped at the new house on the way. It was helpful for us to see the foundation and the lot after the backfill. I still have trouble telling where everything is going to be. I was glad to see more side yard out our windows than it appeared from the plans and before the backfill. I'll do better picturing rooms after it is framed.

Have a great week! love, Mom

I had my annual checkup this morning at an IHC clinic by us--all good. We got our flu shots there, but they didn't have the covid vaccine now. They will be getting some. She said they were wasting too much because not enough people would get it within the 6-hour window for each opened vial of 6 doses or something like that. They will maybe do a couple days a month to give them so they will have enough people to go through an open vial.

Nelva and Arnold signed up yesterday at Walgreens website and got appointments for this morning. She said it went quickly and smoothly. So I went online after we got home from the doctor's and the earliest appts. at our Walgreens was Tues. Oct. 5. Walgreens doesn't have much business so maybe they require appts. I'm not sure about walk-ins.

I checked and there are county vaccination clinics with no appts. necessary (or you can make appts.)

I checked online some more and found the CVS pharmacy at Target had covid vaccine with appts.--or walk-ins welcome. The online appts. were a bit cumbersome with all the information asked for and your insurance card numbers. None of the places let you do two appts. together without doing each one separately (and maybe back-to-back appts. would be gone by then).

So we just went to Target as walk-ins and were totally welcomed and no wait. They print out the information from their records, so it was much easier. And then they give you a $5 store coupon each--good for a month. We should have gotten our flu shots at target also and would have gotten 2 more $5 coupons. The gal at Target said they have enough demand that walk-ins are no problem at all. So we shopped a bit to use our coupons since we don't go to Target often.

It was Derek and Danielle that told us about Target a couple years ago. The 5 of them got flu shots and got $25 worth of free shopping!

So it is nice to have our covid booster and our flu shots over with and feel more relaxed and safe.

Shane: My doctor said to check with your rheumatologist as some of them prefer you go without your meds for a couple weeks before your booster, in order for it to give more protection.

We hope baby Evan is feeling better---keep us posted on his covid illness.

  • From Derek: Glad you got your booster shots! I'm team #Moderna so I might need to wait longer than others!
  • From Jen: I had thought they said a Covid immunization and any other vaccine had to be weeks apart (as far as getting the flu shot too). Have they changed that up? I remember I was looking into getting Keaton scheduled for a Covid shot when he stepped on a nail at work and needed a Tetanus shot, and then was told to wait for the Covid shot.  When Gray and Keaton went to San Fran a little over a week ago, they DID need their proof of vaccination for entry to almost everywhere. Neither had brought theirs, but a picture of Gray's worked, Keaton wasn't sure where his card was, but he got signed on to the "Docket" app (in the app store) which connects to the health dept and shows your immunizations, and that worked just fine too.
