Dear Kids
Here’s Dad (grandpa) with another kids letter. It’s been a long time since my last letter. Mom does such a good job of writing letters. Here’s a recap of the past few weeks.
15 December 2021 – Wednesday, we woke up to a big snow. I got out to shovel snow, 9 ½ inches on the driveway, and 11 ½ inches, back yard. The snow was heavy and wet. I just shoveled a path to our front door, and enough to get our Lexus out if need be. Our red tipped photina in back was bent clear down to the ground. We’ll be looking for some suggestions: cut it down, which would leave a big bare fireplace wall, or tie it up to the house somehow.
16 December 2021 – Thursday – Scott’s 58th Birthday. We started to send out our Christmas newsletter. Shane called, and then came to pick up two packages. He was just returning from a trip to Dallas.
17 December 2021 – Friday. Scottie came for a visit. He and I shoveled off more of our driveway, enough for two cars. Nelva and Arnold came about 3:00. Scottie left, and we played some Progressive. Then we had a nice dinner, lasagna.
19 December 2021 – Sunday. We had our Christmas program. We had our usual orchestra, prelude, about 20 people. I sang in the choir. We went to PG for dinner. Kim fixed a nice dinner, Cornish game hens, very good. We played some games of Rummikub.
We’ve been watching some of Colton’s basketball games. One was in Mt. Pleasant vs Wasatch Academy. Colton is a great player, point guard, playing JV and Varsity, though he is only a sophomore.
23 December 2021 – Thursday. Chris came and helped get the house in order for the big Christmas Eve Party. Thanks Chris.
24 December 2021 – Friday – Christmas Eve. Derek came and fixed our main bathroom toilet. He had to make two trips to Home Depot. Thanks Derek. We got the house all ready for the big party, 5:00, soups. We had lots of guests: most of our family, but not Wendy’s family, or Corin and Kylie. Some of the grandkids played ping pong, and other table games. We had the big soup dinner, and then lots of desserts, lots of them GF. We played the candy bar game, and watched the video presentation from Jen. Thanks Jen. Some of the guests left early: Kemery and Mitch and Letti, and Alyssa and her boyfriend, Jed. Other early leavers: Callahan and Kate, and Landon and Sol. Derek and Chris and Shane did lots of cleanup. Thanks guys.
25 December 2021 – Saturday – Christmas Day. Wendy and four of her children arrived, 5:00. We had dinner, leftover soups, goodies. Some of the gang watched a Christmas movie. The Jensens got all situated in four bedrooms, boys in the basement.
26 December 2021 – Sunday. We all went to church, 11:30, one hour only. Later in the day, Camden and Cayson arrived, and then Shane’s family. I got down for some ping pong with Josh. We had a good dinner, and the kids all played in the basement. The six adults gabbed in the dining room. Shane and Alicia and Calder left. Their girls stayed for a sleepover, and Camden and Cayson also, so we had four girls upstairs, and four boys downstairs.
27 December 2021 – Monday. The gang got up and cooked some breakfast, eggs, Cayson, Rella. Rick and Wendy left for a lunch appointment. They took Adria and Rella back. Derek and Danielle and girls, and Roxie, arrived. Derek fixed our main bathroom toilet. We had a pizza dinner, and had lots of desserts. Derek fixed our living room fireplace. Thanks Derek. We got hit with a big snowstorm. Derek didn’t dare leave, whiteout, but we watched some TV show, Spanish, and they finally left. There was about 3 inches of snow on our driveway. I shoveled some. Jared and Josh also waited out the whiteout, and came home later.
28 December 2021 – Tuesday. Jamie Dahl, living in Washington State, visiting his mother, Suzie, came over and shoveled our driveway. Thanks Jamie. Margie and Wendy did a swim. Jenna and Jaiden got their snow clothes on, and went in the back yard. Jaiden built a cute little snowman. Rick and the boys left for St. George. Wendy and the girls left for Lindon, to stay another night with Shane and Alicia and the cousins. The house was quiet once again.
30 December 2021 – Thursday. My sister Diane had called, and she got a ride with her granddaughter, Ashley, and her daughter, Hadley, age 11. We had a nice visit.
31 December 2021 – Friday – New Year’s Eve. We had more snow. Jamie Dahl was out shoveling our walks, again. He did the whole front, about 5 inches. We got out, 7:30, drive to Blackhams. The roads were a bit slick at first. Grayson cooked up some prime rib and potatoes. We played some games, Progressive, Pirate. All of the boys were there, except for Cal and Kate. We waited out the New Year, and drove home, slowly.
1 January 2022 – Saturday – New Year’s Day. Chris came to work for us. Shane and family arrived. Shane and Calder stayed here, and Alicia and girls went out to dinner, with her sister and Tess. Shane and Margie worked over more house plans, office, bathrooms, etc. Calder and I did some games, Wii.
2 January 2022 – Sunday – Fast Sunday. We went to church, 9:00, and used our handicap sticker for the first time. I finally got the sticker because I’m not able to walk as far or as quickly as I once could. Shane and family arrived. We had a nice dinner, chicken cordon bleu. I had the cracked chicken, from Jen. We took down Christmas. Shane planted our tree out in front. It was a beautiful blue spruce, cut out of our yard. Then we played a big game of Pirate.
We love you all. Love, Dad, Grandpa
