Messages from Mom ~ July 2022

Monday ~ July 4, 2022

Hi kids,

Thanks for the updates on your busy lives! We'd never know about most of it otherwise!

Wow, Grayson, that's a tremendous weight loss. So many of us struggle without success--you're amazing! Careful running in this heat (and Adria also!) So many baskets Colton made in one game! Sorry you've been having treadmill troubles. We've been having trouble with our pebble ice maker and miss it! Any my computer isn't working and our laptop downstairs is having problems. Always something, isn't it!

We're glad Josh, Jaiden, and Jenna had so much fun at FSY. Several kids in our ward bore their testimonies about how great their experience was. I sought them out after to see where they went, in case they had Jared as a counselor, but they all went to BYU. They said it was hard to find a spot, so make plans quickly when it is your stake's turn every other year, for 14-18 year-olds. Now the Church is paying for it, except for just $75 for the whole week. EFY cost hundreds of dollars, so the Church knows how important it is for the youth to have this experience and help strengthen them to live in this complex world and face the temptations out there. Wendy's 3 had to go to three different locations to fit in with their schedules.

It was fun that one of Jeni's Zumba friends mentioned taking 2 of her kids to FSY at Snow College----and they ended up having Jared and loved him!

Sorry the Wendys job isn't more fun for Josh, with no young people on his shift---but some adults can be fun too and you can learn a lot from. Camden has been working double also---mowing 40 lawns a day in the heat with Wayne and another guy. Then working at R.C. Willey warehouse in West Valley from 4-9, I think. So he is living at his mother's to be closer to work and then returning to Snow College the end of August for his 2nd year. He said he was jealous of Jared, being there the past 5 weeks, as a counselor for FSY. He had a blast doing it--it really fits his personality! And to get to do two sessions in Hawaii and one at BYU, he'll enjoy that.

Hope Rick and Jaiden won't get covid before their cruise. Sorry Wendy's family had to miss a holiday barbeque with friends because of Jenna's covid. How is she feeling? What are her symptoms? They vary so greatly from person to person. So now Jase, Danielle, and Jenna have had it a second time. All 3 of them had the original Delta version a year and a half ago or more, and then had the Omicron variant more recently.

Chris and Kim asked if they could come to dinner last night (which we wish more of you busy people would do), so that was nice to visit with them---and LaMar got a good meal! Camden joined us. Cayson went camping with his mother and Conner. Then Shane's family came to visit and have strawberry shortcake--we went an entire cake! They planned to overlap with Chris and Kim for awhile. Then after Chris and Kim left, Camden stayed and we all played Progressive Rummy. Camden caught on quickly to the complicated game and we had a laughing good time. Calder did Wii and then put papers through our shredder, which he loves to do and took bags of the shredded paper home with him---much to his parent's delight.......... Though they warned him not to put it up in the ceiling fan like last time---to make it snow paper everywhere!

Shane and Rella leave today for their almost two-week trip to South America. Be sure and do a write-up like your trip to Europe with Adria, so we can share in your experience. Alicia said she is really enjoying her new job in the Kneader's warehouse from 9-1 (I think) each day. She said it is a lot of fun and she enjoys the couple gals and several young men she works with.

Scott and Amy's builder started on our basement last week and spent half a day knocking down a few walls and things and then came a half day to cart it all away. LaMar and Chris and I got some good things accomplished also--in the house, yard, and garage.

Tonight we and Danielle's parents are invited over for games and fireworks--------great comfortable view from their back deck of Thanksgiving Point and other further fireworks.

We're still going through things, and Chris carts it away for us. Still lots more to do. As Chris mentioned, he just took an old set of golf clubs to take to D.I. if Blackhams or anyone wants them.

Have a great holiday and week!

love, Mom/Grandma
Wendy: Thanks for the update, Mom! I tested positive for Covid also last night (fourth of july). I thought I probably would get it since I had been alone with Jenna in the car for over an hour the day before she tested positive. Jenna mostly just had a stuffy nose the past several days and also some chills a couple of the nights. My symptoms were very different from hers -- I had a bad sore throat (still do) and a little headache and today I felt a little nauseous, dizzy, and tired. So not a very fun Fourth of July for us! Jenna painted her whole body with red white and blue paint and went outside to watch fireworks -- the ones we can see from our house in several directions. Then we watched the newish West Side Story movie on Disney. Josh worked all day and then hung out with Jared at his apartment and then went out with friends and Jaiden watched some fireworks with friends. Rick is in Florida and will teach at FSY Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wendy, so sorry to hear that you got covid too! I sure hope Jaiden and Rick don't get it and can't go on their cruise! It is funny how the symptoms are so different for different people. The governor had a terrible sore throat, like a hot poker he said. Dad and I didn't have a sore throat at all, nor a cough. Runny nose and hoarse voice and I was dizzy and just a little fever of 100.

We had a nice time last night at D & D's, along with Alicia, Calder, and Adria, and Danielle's parents and brother Ben and wife Becca. We played games, ate goodies, and then watched the close fireworks at Thanksgiving Point. Plus you can see lower further ones all over Utah valley.

Thanks for the pic of you & Rella, Shane. Not too many people fly to Peru for lunch! Glad none of your flights got cancelled! Stay well and safe and have fun!!

Amy and her designer friend from Highland came over for a couple hours this morning, planning tile and paint colors, etc. for the basement. Their builder couldn't come today after all, but probably Thursday. We always like to see our kids. We're anxious to see how the basement turns out--wonderful, I'm sure! Spencer's birthday yesterday on the 4th. I didn't have his phone number, so wrote McKenna to give him the birthday message.

After my swim, Dad and I trimmed bushes and filled 2 big garbage can containers! I try to go do a little yard work while my wet swimsuit keeps me cool on a really hot day. Time for a nap.
