Messages from Mom ~ September 2022

September 1, 2022

Scott and Amy were released on Sunday and Amy spoke in Church. Then they brought a load of stuff over, with Kemery and Mitch and Letti and Taylee and Alyssa, some still in their church clothes, after coming to hear Amy speak. Amy brought another load Mon. morning and Scott another load. Scott's back is still bad and he can't lift anything much. Their movers came here Wed. afternoon and our living room and garage are loaded with their furniture, etc. They accidentally broke Amy's big mirror she loved, that cost $1,000. Derek came in the morning and moved a lot of stuff in the living room and garage so the movers had more area to place things.

Derek and Chris have helped Scott move filled boxes to his work storage room about 4 times. And Scott rented a storage place also.

When Scott and his family came Sun. afternoon with truck and car loads, they took a mattress and box springs from our living room and moved Taylee into Natalie's house (Kellen's girl friend). then Scott had to come back another night trying to find some other things Taylee wanted and take them to her in Provo.

Scott & family have put some smaller things down the basement now. Hopefully their builder will be back on the job Tues. after his trip and the holiday.

So Chris hasn't been able to work here this week. Dad will need to mow. Scott wanted us to mow with his regular mower to try to use up the gas in it. Chris spent about 5 hours here Sun. Washing the basement floor vinyl planking , after the baby blessing and brunch, so Scott could start putting some stuff down there.

Scott said the extended stay motel is behind the Harmons near them in Draper and is very nice. Amy had her cleaning people there to clean on Tues. and they had to be completely out and cleaned by yesterday for the new owners. Maybe Scott and Amy can de-stress a little now. They just threw all their freezer stuff away. Her work has been extra busy and under-staffed, so Amy has had to work lots of extra days lately.

(later that day)

Chris and Cayson have Covid.

Chris and Cayson tested negative on Tues. Chris was so sick yesterday, Cayson drove him to the Urgent Care Center where he tested positive. The doctor prescribed Paxlovid, which will be delivered this afternoon. At least he knows the reason for his sickness now---otherwise he didn't know what was going on--horrible back ache and other symptoms.

Kim had her eye surgery Mon. He said it turned out to be a blessing that the surgery was changed from Wed. to Mon. since he would have been too sick to take her yesterday and they might have cancelled knowing she had been exposed to covid and she had already arranged to be off work for her recovery period. She needs to get to the doctor tomorrow, or maybe today, to get out a stitch that is keeping her left eye closed. She thinks she can drive herself, as she doesn't want to expose anyone to covid in case she might be getting it.

Sandy and all 5 boys went camping over the weekend, so that's how Cayson and Kadan got it the same time. I thought it was quite a coincidence that Kadan got it the same time when he lives in Cedar City. Conner seems okay so far. Don't know about Corin.

Kadan wrote that he was glad to know about the last 8 free covid tests that ends tomorrow, so he ordered them. He had ordered the first 2 batches of 4 tests, but hadn't heard about the third set of 8 tests. Chris ordered them also.

Callahan's wife Kate wrote me that the SL County Libraries are giving them out free also---she thinks a limit of 4 per family.

A team of 3 guys just came to install a metal railing (like we have on our front porch) in the basement next to the short staircase to the big storage room, where the half way used to be.

Shane has ordered me a new computer and two new nice curved monitors. My computer has not been working well for a couple months. He said the monitors arrived yesterday and the computer is a week out. It will be nice to have it, since our laptop is not working well either and Dad is busy on his Thurs., Fri. and Sat. mornings with missionary shifts and meetings.

From Jen:  I went to watch Cal and Colton play in a men's league last night, and they had tests at our local rec centers too. I have three different kinds of tests (two from the government program and one I bought). We've just used the one type so far. We've stayed pretty healthy and haven't even needed to test very often (Colton a couple times, Gray once, more for exposure than feeling any symptoms). This is Chris's first round with it, right?

From Chris: Yep. First time, I made it almost 3 years.

From Wendy: Hope you all get feeling better soon! Covid is the worst!

His wife Joy called Dad while I was in my swim. I had seen something on Facebook yesterday that seemed to indicate his death, but I wasn't sure. He was 88, diabetic (& didn't take good care of it) and his kidneys failed. He decided to not start dialysis. They lived in Utah County. They decided on cremation. Will have a memorial service on Oct. 8. I haven't found an obituary yet.
