Messages from Mom - Oct23

Hi Wendy, (and I decided to send this answer and update to the rest of the family while I am at it!)

I am just reading your letter now, so will comment as I read:

That is nice that Jenna got her patriarchal blessing Sunday and that Josh was able to go and hear it.

Man, that was a lot of miles for you last Mon.! Shane's family went on a hike Sat. and then out to breakfast. Chris has been taking Dad hiking most weeks. I can't believe how beautiful and warm Oct. has been here! We are trying to plant some bulbs each day until we get too tired. It's a lot of work (400 + bulbs) getting our little garden area ready for winter. I'm glad we don't have a whole big yard to do!

I have to have another tooth implant. We went to S.L. Thurs. to have the old roots dug out and the implant started. $$2,500! Plus a total of 5 dental visits and takes over 5 months to complete. Then we shopped at a couple stores. We were gone 4 1/2 hours and were exhausted when we got home. We tire so easily these days. Dad called Jason's office this morning to postpone our Nov. 15 cleaning and checkup appts., because of my implant healing. Mainly I think he is getting tired of all the driving to appts. in S.L. This Wed. afternoon we are going again for my annual appt. with my Internal Medicine doctor. So Dad and Chris won't be able to hike that afternoon. Hope they can find a different day. He has been going to an eye doctor here each month to check on his new glaucoma diagnosis and is doing nightly eye drops to keep it in check.

We had a nice dinner at Shane and Alicia's last night, then the 4 of us played some hands of Progressive Rummy. Rella and Calder went to a youth testimony meeting at the church after dinner. Shane gave the opening prayer in Sacrament meeting and Rella gave the closing. Alicia subbed as Primary Chorister and Shane subbed in the Nursery. Dad and Alicia and Rella stayed for choir after church. Shane and Alicia went to dinner and Hale Theater Fri. night and out to dinner with friends Sat. night and played miniature golf.

Scott and Amy have been busy with lots of trips the past couple of months. Amy on a trip with friends, Scott's annual work retreat to St. George, then both to Washington D.C. and Hawaii. I think they leave today to Seattle to visit McKenna's family. McKenna and Spencer and baby Eddie have come to stay with them for a visit. And Kellen and Natalie have visited from Nevada.

Derek's family went to St. George for the long weekend with Danielle's family. They sent pictures in front of the temple (going to the open house I assume) and hiking. Always be very careful leaping from boulder to boulder in St. George. In RS, one sister mentioned hearing Meg Johnson ? speak (I have also) about doing that and falling off a cliff and ending up paralyzed at age 21. The sister next to me mentioned that the same thing happened to her cousin, who fell off a cliff there also and she ended up paralyzed.

t seems like we saw Hunchback at Tuacahn one year and enjoyed it.

That's nice Jenna is into baking lately! I made some pumpkin bread with Kneader's online recipe, plus choc. chips. It is kind of flat, but moist and yummy. I love it toasted and buttered. It is hard to lift out of the toaster. Alicia had some little wooden toaster tongs to get it out, so I ordered some from Amazon. I fixed dinner here on Tues. night for Shane & Alicia and Rella and Calder. Rella usually can't come because of dance, but Tues. she has YW and not dance. Rella asked a guy to the girl's choice dance on Nov. 4th, so that will be fun. She had a fun time at Homecoming. The YM and YW came around doing service for people.

That is scary that Janika got rear-ended---glad she and the baby are all right! That's nice that your old boyfriend does a good job with insurance needs for your family. Car repair costs are high!

I'm glad the open house for the temple is so popular and so many deaf are able to attend through your efforts, though you will be relieved when your busy schedule is over! I wondered if you might see Derek's family there.

Your Seminary Faculty retreat sounds delightful. I remember you used to love those so much and then they did away with them for many years to save costs.

That's nice Janika and Ellen plan "cousins day." All these family things take effort, but are so worth it. I remember fondly times like that when Jen would come over and Dad would tend the little boys and Jen and I would go to lunch, then all of us would swim at the pool. And the girls lunches we used to have for those that could come---usually me, Jen, and Alicia, when she lived in Sandy.

Thurs. night our ward is having a Halloween Party with hot soups and chili and trunk & treats for the kids. A YSA gal came and delivered us an invitation to a special dinner on Wed. Nov. 1 that the YSA ward is having for "Appreciation Night" for Seniors. So that will be nice. When Dad called to RSVP, he asked what age, so we could maybe pick up some seniors in our ward. The gal he called said she thought it was just for one couple per ward, so we don't know exactly what it is for sure. I guess it would be a huge effort if it was for all seniors because a YSA ward usually encompasses several stakes. I remember when I was asking an older couple in the ward if they would come to dinner sometime, he said that his wife usually wouldn't go out to things, and even wouldn't go to a dinner where he was being honored. So I don't know--maybe it is something like that. We shall see.

We hope that Kim and Christine will love their new jobs. We hope Cooper is enjoying his. Adria is loving BYU and Janelle is enjoying BYU and working at the MTC. Jaiden is enjoying the MTC. I think she flies out to Mongolia around the 30th of this month--coming up soon.

Chris had Kim had one of their weekend getaways this weekend. Cayson spoke in church.

Thanks for your nice letter and photos! We love hearing what is happening with your family. Nice that Jared and his girlfriend visited so you could get better acquainted with her. I have been meaning to write for a couple weeks, but never seem to do it. I will edit this somewhat and send it out to everyone, to help the family stay close and connected by knowing what is going on with each other.

Write and tell us how all your families are doing--we love hearing from you! We want the cousins to know what each other are doing in their lives, so write! Jared came over for dinner and to talk finance. Calder says he wants Jared to come back!!

love, Mom
