Jensen Update as of October 2024

It has been a long while since I have done an update! Here is the run down on the family! Also, I just put a google album together in order to share some photos (the collage below is just a small sampling!) Click this link!!  https://photos.app.goo.gl/V3HQMpcRryzWDNS3A

Janika and Brandon and their little ones are doing well. They are going to Hawaii with Brandon's family at the end of next week. Little Everett is only two years old, but SO observant and smart! When Bradley Wilcox gave his conference talk and said "From Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to Thomas, Idaho..." Everett piped up when he heard Mongolia and said, "That's where Jaiden is!"  Janika and Brandon were discussing the "peacemaker talk" and Everett said "And do you think we should be an ice maker? To help Jesus?" They must have corrected him, because when they did a video call last night I asked Everett what his favorite conference talk was and he said, "the Peacemaker one!" Pretty impressive!!

Jase and Ellen and family are doing well too. They came down last week for a few days and went and saw Anastasia at Tuacahn. They said they thought it was one of the best shows Tuacahn has even done. They also went and played laser tag and spent some time with friends. Rick was gone on a work cruise, but came home the last night they were here. Ellen is due in January, but they are anticipating that little Elsie will come very early like her brothers did. The doctors are keeping a close eye on her. Her sister, Lexie, is hosting a baby shower for Ellen at their house on Friday night. Hopefully some of you can make it!

Jared and Hallie have now been married a month already! They both ran the St. George Marathon on Saturday. We have lived in the St. George area for 27 years and we have NEVER attended the St. George Marathon before! We usually stay home and avoid the crowds! Each of the runners have a little tracker in the number that is pinned to them and so we can watch their progress from an app. It is pretty cool!! Rick and I went to the finish line to cheer them on. Bryton ran the half marathon, along with his brother, his brother's wife, and his mom. So we cheered them on as well. Jared looked like he was doing well, but after he finished and went through the area where the runners go through, he pretty much collapsed. He said it was SO awful -- the worst pain he has ever felt in his entire life -- and something he NEVER wants to do again!! After seeing what bad shape he was in, I started to worry about Hallie, who was around 30 minutes behind him. We cheered her on at the finish line and then caught up with her after the race. She looked great! She didn't look at all winded and looked like she hadn't even broken a sweat, ha ha! I was amazed!

Janelle and Bryton are busy with wedding planning, school, and work. Last night Janelle, Bryton, and Janelle's friend were on their way home from St. George, and Janelle was driving Bryton's car. They were just passing by Fillmore when she hit a big object in the road. Thankfully they were all okay, but it did quite a number on the car and it was leaking fluid. The police came and the kids had a scare because they couldn't find the registration or proof of insurance, but after a bunch of phone calls they finally got it figured out. Luckily Bryton's brother was following behind them and so he was able to give them all a ride to BYU. They were going to have to get the car towed to a shop in Fillmore, but Bryton's grandparents were visiting their family in St. George with their trailer and so Bryton's dad decided to drive all the way to Fillmore (2 1/2 hours each way) to tow it home himself in order to try and fix it. He is good at fixing cars and fixed Janelle's car when she was in a little accident at BYU, causing her to lose her bumper. However, I just texted Bryton's mom and she said that it sounds like the car is totaled. So sad!! Hopefully they will get enough from the insurance company to get another car. Janelle could also use a new car since hers has been unreliable for a while. So that was a stressful end to an otherwise wonderful weekend! Janelle's bridal shower is this Saturday at Shane and Alicia's house at noon. We look forward to seeing all those who can come!

Jaiden only has FOUR months left of her mission!! She was just transferred to the countryside, a 12 hour bus ride away from the city. She is thrilled!! She didn't like the area she was in and was desperately praying for a transfer to the country! She is excited to be where she is! She just finished her application to BYU, and also applied to FSY. She went to SUU before her mission, but is thinking of transferring to BYU. She has a full scholarship at SUU and so it would be sad to lose that, but it would also be fun for her to go to BYU where many of her mission friends are going, and her sister, and cousins. So we will see, she is still undecided.

Josh is so excited to leave the MTC and go to Korea!! He will leave NEXT WEEK!!! His departure date is either the 16th or 17th. He was able to come to the temple for Jared and Hallie's sealing, which was such a tender mercy! In fact he was scheduled to be there at athe Mount Timpanogos Temple with his District to do sealings at the exact time we were there and so it worked out perfectly! He just rode the bus there and back with his district -- just instead of going to do sealings, he met us in the marriage waiting room and then came to the wedding instead! He was also able to stay for pictures. Tender mercy all around!

Jenna just turned 16 on Thursday. She had a great day and was shown lots of love! She went to her first dance (Homecoming) and asked someone to Sadies. She also got her driver's license -- on her birthday!! She is the first of our kids to get their license on their birthday! She is SO excited to drive, but hates that Utah has a law where teenagers can't drive with friends in the car until at least six months after they receive their license. She says that NO ONE follows that (and that certainly seems to be the case). I am always relieved once that first six months are over, because it is a constant battle! Saturday night she had a party in celebration of her birthday. Her friends all came over and carved pumpkins and she had a caramel apple car with various toppings. Then the teenagers all went to the Field of Screams, the haunted corn maze at Staheli Farms.

Jenna and I are heading up north on Friday for the showers, so that will be fun! Hallie and Jared are leaving on a cruise for their belated honeymoon on Saturday. Hopefully they are recovered by then!! Rick and Jenna were both sick last week, but doing a lot better now. I have been interpreting at SUU on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays and at Utah Tech on Tuesday and Thursdays. I enjoy it, but I miss having days off during the week. Jenna has a "lunch bunch" of 12 kids and they trade off going to different houses on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I signed up for the first week (right after school started) since my University jobs hadn't started yet at that time. The next time it was my turn I had Rick cover my classes so that I could host it (he offered to host it instead, but I didn't want to miss it), and then we hosted it on her birthday. Jenna also has a Friday temple group where we trade off going with the girls, and that has been tricky with my current job also. So it will be nice when Jenna can drive her friends.
