Time for a Blackham Update 02/08 - We’ve had quite a bit going on.
This last week we had a couple fun experiences. First,
Callahan went with a friend to the Energy Solutions Arena as part of the Junior
Jazz program to meet one of the Jazz players. The kids got to go down and
bounce the ball on the court. Darrin Williams was there to show the 100+ 4th
graders some moves. At one point, they had the kids practice dribbling down the
court. Callahan was the last in line, as he went down .... suddenly D.Williams
was there challenging him, so Callahan got to go one-on-one with him for a
minute there. Callahan gets a HUGE grin on his face when he talks about it. Very thankful for basketball buddies and the parent who took pictures!
Gray took the day off on Friday, so I took advantage of him
being home (and kicking me out of my gym as he did a weights session) to go to
the Olympic Oval and jog around the track there. I’ve been several times to
skate, but hadn’t been jogging since the first time Gray and I went several
months ago. Anyway, it looked like the Olympic speed skaters were there
training. It was fun to see them speed around the ice, not even going close to
top speed, but still so fast. I saw Apollo Ohno (he’s the only one I would
really recognize). So that was fun for me. I pretty much had the track to
myself because they actually had a sign that it was closed to the public
Fri/Sat as they were having a high school track meet, but as it didn’t start
until later in the day, I was still allowed in. I got in a good hour (4 miles).
The Junior Jazz season is winding down. Keaton had his last
game on Saturday. He couldn’t really play to his full potential as he had hurt
his wrist the night before. Daddy went and saw him play, while I took Callahan
to his game (I was glad Grayson had the Saturday off as the games overlapped).
I have a hard time just sitting still. I jog the track during Keaton’s game,
and during Callahan’s, I find a corner of the bleachers and step up and down
most of the time (got in a good 45 minute workout). It was a tough team, the
pulled ahead in the last quarter, handing us our first loss of the season. They
were really gracious afterward though, telling us what a great job our kids
did. One of the teams playing right after us was being coached by Rochelle
Hadley (whatever her married name is) ... Callahan has his final game next
Saturday, then Landon has two games the week after that. Landon has also been playing
church ball and we’ve gotten comments from some of the men in the ward that he
is doing great.
Callahan and Keaton are off track for three weeks. They are
signed up for bowling, and pretty much keeping themselves entertained. We did
go out to Mom’s, and after seeing them play on the Wii Fit, and me thinking I
might benefit from some of the training, I decided it would be a good thing for
our family. After calling around, I was able to locate one, and we are now the
proud owners of a Wii Fit and it has already gotten a lot of use. We’ll be able
to challenge Mom a lot better now that we can practice on our own. Mom got a
perfect score in the soccer heading! That’s still a ways off for me! So far
I’ve been able to get in about 30 minutes a day ... although it’s hard, because
I have to try to squeeze it in when it isn’t being monopolized by the kids
(playing Wii Fit and their other games). It has made me pay a lot more
attention to my balance (or lack thereof).
So that’s been the main goings on here. We had a little bit
of sickness, nothing major. Baby was under the weather for a bit (got attached
to having a little “bed” on the couch in the front room) and Landon missed his
first day of school this year with a fever and cough. Grayson has continued
working hard at his job, and his fitness/diet. He’s very dedicated, tracking
calories, trying new recipes. He preps a lot of food himself, after buying a
broccoli salad he liked, he tried (successfully) making it from scratch
himself. He’s also made his own protein bars and even whole wheat
crackers! He also made homemade donuts a
couple weeks ago (ok, those aren’t on any diet plan, but they were good!)
We’ve continued to struggle with the potty training for
Cooper ... I know several kids Colton’s age who are potty trained, but it’s
hard to even think about him when his older brother can’t master it. Cooper won’t poop in the potty ... and he
won’t go in any other potty except out main bathroom with his little insert
seat. I know it’s mostly my fault, that I haven’t really pushed him, I keep
thinking he’s old enough that it will just click (that’s how it worked with
Keaton and Landon).
Well, just a cute little story about Keaton. He was doing
his daily job, unloading the dishwasher, when he came across a turkey baster
(something I don’t use often). He brought it to me asking where he should put
it away. He asked “in the 3rd drawer, the 4th drawer ...
or the medicine drawer?” .... I guess it does look like a big medicine dropper!
It made me laugh.
