Annual Lamar Letter - 20 May 2018

Dear Kids                                                                  20 May 2018

Here’s Dad (grandpa) with another kids letter.  My last letter to all our kids was over a year ago, on 14 Mar 2017.  I did write to Shane in between, when he was in Amsterdam.

Here’s a recap of the past week or so.

13 May 2018 – Sunday – Mother’s Day -- We went to our 9-12 church meetings, Sacrament Meeting, Laurels and Priests, Mother’s Day, and the Primary sang, all very good.  We got a nice visit from Scottie and Amy and their three girls.  Then Shane called.  We headed out about 5:05 for a 5:30 dinner at Derek and Danielle’s.  We played with the girls.  Danielle’s parents were there also, for a nice dinner, cooked up by Derek for Mother’s Day.  We had a nice visit.  Wendy called also.

14 May 2018 – Monday -- I went to the New Haven meeting, at the ward, inclement weather.

15 May 2018 – Tuesday -- Jen arrived and she took Mom went out to lunch at Chuckarama.  Jen brought us three big boxes of food, one for the freezer.  She made me two pans of gluten-free Ziti (kind of like lasagna.)

16 May 2018 – Wednesday – We went downtown for our usual CHL duties.  Back home, we were getting ready to go over to the ward to help the girls with trek.  Then Mom got sick, throwing up.  I went over by myself, in the truck.  We had two other consultants there to help also (finding stories of their ancestors/companies on the trail website), but the girls didn’t end up coming in.  They were too busy sewing their skirts for trek.   Mom went to a lot of work on packets for each.  Maybe some miscommunication.  If Mom had been there, it probably would have worked out as planned---half of the girls coming in while others sewed, then switching groups.

17 May 2018 – Thursday -- We made an errand run, Home Depot, flexible sprinkler piece, plants.  I had broken a sprinkler line, PVC, and have been working on a fix.

18 May 2018 – Friday -- I did my phone shift, very busy, 7 cases handled.  Then I mowed the lawn.  It was very high.  Chris and family were coming for dinner, last minute.  We got the house ready.  Our company arrived about 6:45, Chris and Kim and Krystal and Camden and Cayson.  We had a good dinner, spaghetti, and Ziti from Jen.  Then we played some Rummikub.  The company departed about 8:30.

19 May 2018 – Saturday --  We headed out about 2:45, pick up Sister Sorensen, our team leader for our Family Search assignment, and Emma Bown, who is the main church employee over Family Search support, drove to Ogden, Golden Corral.  We got there right on time: 3:57.  We had a nice social for our group.  There were 25 or more people there.  We had a good visit and meal.  We had a meeting after the dinner.  We returned home about 7:00.  We felt bad to miss our Saturday night Stake Conference meeting.

20 May 2018 – Sunday – Stake Conference -- We went to our 10:00 Stake Conference meeting.  It was good.  We’ve been working up some reports and stories for our Stake President, President David Sturt, to use for the upcoming trek.

Mom said Pres. Sturt wrote immediately expressing thanks for what she sent him.  Then he emailed her again this morning, saying he had used one of the pioneer stories she sent as the basis for his Seminary Graduation talk last night.  Mom said that shows his leadership abilities that he took the time to do that, even though he is still working full-time and very busy.  She said we need to all keep developing our own leadership skills and recognize them in others.

Expressing appreciation to others, by President Gordon B. Hinckley

 Coming events:

Next week, we aren’t scheduled for a lot of stuff.  Wednesday, we will be going downtown again for another shift at the CHL for our usual Pioneer Trail work.  Derek arranged for someone to come Thurs. to caulk the outside of our bedroom window that he repaired on the inside.  Friday, I will again do my phone shift.  The week after that, the whole world will be celebrating my 81st birthday, on Memorial Day, on Monday.

Cayson will be 12 tomorrow.  Jaiden will be 14 on May 31st.

   We love you all.

 Love, Dad, Grandpa
