Hi Kids,
We talked with Wendy. Some water had come up her driveway and some got into the basement next door that shares the driveway--it way that close! What a great blessing that they were spared--the fear and worry since she wasn't home and didn't check her messages and spared the terrible mud and destruction that some got. She said the news people called her to get her story, but she had none to share.
http://fox13now.com/2012/09/11/parts-of-santa-clara-flooded-after-dike-breaks/ Wendy, is this Karen Phillips being interviewed your next door neighbor?
On google maps, Dad brought one up that showed where the dike, up by the high school, and Wendy's house in relation to it--within easy walking distance.
Derek and Danielle bought a piano made in 1893 (I think that was the year) and had it delivered to our place yesterday about 12:30, for us to store until their new home is built. So now we have 2 pianos in our music room, so you can play duets for 3-6 months. They hope for the hole to be dug this coming week. Derek came out to receive the piano and had lunch here.
Jeni came out for tennis and we went out to lunch. The court was busy before lunch, so they played after. She got to see Derek for a few minutes. We had a nice lunch and visit at Chuck-a-rama. She did lunch and tennis last week also and just lunch the week before.
Monday we had a nice patio meal in Barton's beautiful back yard, under their covered patio, for empty-nesters, in spite of the sudden severe thundershower an hour before. We had just arrived back home from visiting grandma when the storm hit here at 5:30. Our party was at 6:30.
Tues. (yesterday) the power went out in the morning, so Dad missed his online morning training meeting and his other training meeting in the evening (missionary). I had to do my exercise water aerobics without my music since my CD player took 8 c batteries and we didn't have any that size.
When it got dark, I was so terribly bored with no power and nothing to do and too early to go to bed. Then I remembered our ipad and saw Jeni had downloaded one novel from the cloud to the device, so I could read some of that on the lighted screen without having internet.
Tonight we have Ensign Club starting up again, after the 3 summer months off, so we are going downtown tomorrow instead of our usual Wed.
Sunday D & D were attending their old ward for a missionary homecoming of their next-door neighbor. Then they came to our house after our church for dinner. Then we followed them to Traverse Mountain to see their lot, next to the model home, up above the new Adobe building and Cabela's. Unfortunately the model home wasn't open (their house will be the same), but we looked through windows and could see the main floor--very nice.
Then we went to their present apt. in the basement of Danielle's parent's. Their apt. is very nice, with Danielle's expert decorating skills. Then we played Apples to Apples and couples Rummi Kub upstairs with Danielle's parents and her brother Ben and his girl friend Becca, with good snacks. We had a fun time!
Our fresh peaches from our trees are all gone---I will miss them soooo much! We bottled 70 quarts, ate loads, and shared lots. This is also our best tomato crop in years also, trying a new location by the driveway that had more sun.
We had a nice lasagna dinner and visit and Scott and Amy's a couple Sundays ago.
Jeni has invited us twice--both the Sundays we had accepted other invitations. Hope we get a raincheck--Gray's a great cook too!
We re-enlisted for both of the missions we are serving and got that paperwork out of the way. We have been serving as support missionaries for 6 years and at the Church History dept. for 8 years.
This Fall weather has been so deliciously delightful! I love it!
Shane and Scott, are your families coming to the birthday work party this Sat., the 15th, at 5 p.m. at Chris's? We will bring pizza and dessert. Chris has ordered a load of compost. We will need to start on time since it gets dark earlier. The weather should be perfect. D & D left for Yellowstone today and Jen didn't think they could make it. Let us know, so we know how many to plan for.
Directions to Chris and Kim's house is attached. They live a mile and a half closer than Shane's house.
love, Mom
