Chris&Kim ~ November Email Updates

(November 1, 2021)
Kim's birthday, Halloween, Rocks, New Ideas

Wow, it’s November! Happy birthday to Kim and Amy this week. I picked some ripe raspberries and one strawberry on October 29, so we've had a great autumn.

Kim’s birthday was on Friday. She took the day off work and we made an appointment at the Timpanogos Temple and did an endowment session at 10:30. Then Kim went out to lunch with Wendy, one of her Bunco friends, to Red Lobster.

On Thursday Kim’s coworkers gave her some fun gifts. She has such a pleasant personality that it’s become a saying in the office that “everyone loves Kim”. So they made her a shirt to say as much. We are getting an Apple Watch series seven for her birthday, and it’s been ordered, but not quite in yet.

Saturday Kim and Courtney went and got pedicures, and then went out to lunch. Integrity was sad that she didn’t get to go. It was for Kim’s birthday and for Courtney’s birthday earlier in the month. Kim really enjoyed it.

Back to the rest of the week...

Wednesday I went to get rocks at West Mountain. See the panorama pic below. This was probably the last time this year, due to weather, and my permit running out. I took a picture of the sun going down at 2:17 PM, due to the angle and orientation of the mountain.

On Saturday we had about 15 trick or treaters come by in about 7 different groups. Cayson was invited to go over with Adria and Rella for trick or treating and a movie on Saturday. Aaron came over for dinner.

Tuesday we took Seth, Aspen, and Aaron out to dinner at Slim Chicken. Thursday evening Kim drove in and met me and Grandma and Grandpa at Black Bear for dinner. We took them out for Grandma’s birthday (early). I worked all day at their house, winterizing their yard.

Sourdough bread, Omar's, Fall

Thanks Jeni for your update. Kim has been enjoying the sourdough bread also and making about four loaves a week.

It’s been a good weekend. Saturday we had Integrity in the morning and into the late afternoon. Kim took her over to the relief society craft activity and they made Christmas cards and a wooden Christmas tree sign.

Integrity enjoyed riding in the wheelbarrow during our outside work. She helped me dig and save the canna lily bulbs. We also worked on my bed of rocks. I would show her a really pretty rock and she would exclaim, “oh, that’s too much pretty.“ We also practiced starting a fire, and picked late raspberries.

We had lots of funny conversations. Somehow this came up …

Integrity: I am a toddler
Christopher: You are not a toddler, you're a little girl
Integrity: I AM a toddler
Christopher: No, toddlers walk like this (illustrating)
Integrity: I am a toddler. I know I am.

And another

Integrity: The number one rule is no screaming or crying
Christopher: But you never scream or cry for us
Integrity: Nope, only for my Mom and Dad
Christopher: Why do you cry for them?
Integrity: Because they won’t let me do what I want

The topic of princesses always comes up. She wants to go to Disneyland and see the princesses there, and she has told her parents this. Then she adds with an exasperated sigh, “But they keep forgetting”.

We took Integrity shopping to the good earth with us, and then dropped her off on our way to Omar‘s restaurant in Salt Lake. They moved from Sugarhouse up into the Olympus Hills area. The ambience is much nicer at the new restaurant. We went to Omar‘s on one of our very first dates, and also on the night that I proposed to Kim. This was our 708th date!

The wards in our stake had a major reorganization and they completely did away with the tenth ward. It was the smallest ward. We thought we would be with the majority of our ward and go with the eighth ward. But no, we are now in the third ward, and most of the people will be new to us. Cayson is not excited. We told him it was an opportunity to make new friends, and still keep his old ones.

John Lyman - father of my three workers, is the new Bishop of the Eighth ward, but we aren’t in that ward.

I worked at Grandma and Grandpa’s house on Thursday. Friday after work Kim went out to lunch with Janet Waterman, one of her first friends in Pleasant Grove when she moved here. Sunday evening we had Seth, Aspen, and Aaron over for a roast dinner. Cayson is working about three shifts per week at Costa Vida.

Thanksgiving Dinner - Kim Party - China -
Christopher and Kim Update November 22, 2021

Happy birthday to Rick, Grayson, and Calder this week! We had a great Thankgiving dinner yesterday. Courtney got a free turkey somehow and offered to bring it cooked, so that helped out a lot. Earlier we went to the Primary program for Ani, Layla, and Noelle. They did great and they have a huge Primary! Camden went with us and then went home with Grandma and Grandpa and they stopped by the new house Shane is building. Cayson wanted to go to our new ward.

For our Thanksgiving dinner, Aaron brought his friend Parker and Parker’s girlfriend Kembry. We enjoyed everyone there - but missed Boris and Krystal, Christine and Kadan, and Corin and Kylie. Grandma and Grandpa stayed later and we played Rummikub. Grandpa won most of the games as usual. They also played ping pong.

Back to the rest of the week. Now that it’s getting cold I’m finishing the more detailed rockwork in the outside office.

Friday Kim worked a half day, and she had a get together at our house with her coworkers. They made tostadas and played games. She has a good group of coworkers and they have done this a few times. I went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house Friday instead of Thursday so I would be out of their way.

Saturday we had Integrity for a few hours.

Integrity was commenting that I had rocks from all over the place.

Christopher: “Yes, from all over, except China. Will you bring me some rocks from China?”
Integrity: “Hmmm”
Integrity (excitedly): “Maybe on my way to Disneyland!”
Christopher “Is China on the way to Disneyland?”
Integrity: “I think so”

Thanksgiving, Christmas Tree - 39 Seconds

Christopher and Kim Update November 29, 2021

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! This will be a short update. On Thanksgiving Day Kim and I just spent it together and we had a great time. On Friday afternoon we went up to Mom and Dad’s house and I worked a couple hours while Kim and Mom watched a James Bond movie. Dad and I got their Christmas tree cut from their yard - a blue spruce.

Fun Fact: The quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) replaced the blue spruce (Picea pungens) as the state tree in 2014. And, one of our ancestors helped make the blue spruce the state tree many years ago.

Then in the evening we had a nice roast beef dinner and played Rummikub. I drove the truck home so that we can more easily get our Pilot into the shop for some routine service. Now that we need to shuttle Cayson to and from work at Costa Vida, I use my car more.

Saturday we used the truck to get a Christmas Tree with Integrity - from Home Depot. Much more expensive than Mom and Dad’s tree from their yard..! Integrity also helped me set up a few Nativity Sets around the house.

On Sunday we went to our ward for the first time, and also had tithing settlement with the new Bishop. We like the ward - they are very organized and have all the youth events planned out for the next few weeks so we know what Cayson is doing (but he has to work some evenings).

Monday Kim and I had a nice date to Black Bear Diner. On cold days I’ve been working on the outside office rock wall - finishing it off.
