Westra Family and Friends
(February 20, 2017)
Tuesday was Valentine’s Day. Kim had the evening off from school and we
had a nice evening together. We watched a show together during my last
rest, and then had a nice dinner of trout, salmon, sweet potato, and homemade
herb battered veggie fries. That’s one meal we really enjoy
together. This is our 6th Valentine’s day together!
After church Sunday we had Conner and Amber and Grandma and Grandpa Westra over
for a spaghetti dinner. Cayson did a family home evening story and then
we played games. Grandma brought a new game called Scrabble Word, which
was fun.
On Wednesday I ran to the top of Brush Mountain (right near here in Pleasant
Grove). Here is a link to the Wasatch Hiker description of the
peak. http://www.wasatchhiker.com/trails/destination-details/?Dest_ID=227&Name=Brush_Mountain.
I didn’t take the routes mentioned on the Wasatch Hiker site. Too much
snow. I went up the East side, starting on a trail that begins at the end of
Blackhawk Drive in Pleasant Grove, for a ways, and then on deer trails to the
top.
Made it to the top in 41 minutes, and down in 32 minutes. Total time for
round trip - 1:13. Left the car at 4:17 and made it back at 5:30.
200 floors, 16,000 steps. I submitted my details to a Wasatch Fastest
Known Time site, for running records to the top of local mountains (and other
routes). Brush Mountain wasn’t on there yet, so I just set a world
record!
Elder Taylor leaves this morning for New Jersey! Kim may get a call from
the airport. He is excited to get to Morristown. Elder Westra ended
up not getting a new companion after all, so he is still with Elder Tavarez for
another transfer.
Friday Kim and I went and picked up Camden and Cayson for the weekend.
Cayson went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for the day as he was off from
school but his Mom had to be at a conference. So we picked up Camden at
school and then Cayson at their house, playing a few games of Speed Rummikub
before we left. Kadan came up for a day, and was going to drive up to
Logan for some bus driving training, but it got postponed. He wasn’t
feeling too well - he and a couple roommates have had a bad cough.
Courtney came over Thursday for lunch with Kim. Krystal stops by after
work Tue, Thur, and Sat, so we get to catch up on her doings on those
days. Cam
We got Camden signed up for EFY (Especially for Youth) in June. Aaron
said he wants to go also - we just have to pick the session. The Taylor
kids got a new little baby sister this week - Olexa. So each of them has
ten siblings now! Conner came last Sunday and fixed a few things for
us. Camden and Cayson are staying today as it’s a holiday. Tonight
we are going out to eat with Courtney and Seth.
I got some lettuce and beets planted outside, and more beds filled with good
soil. My abdomen has been hurting more for the past few weeks… pretty
intense at times. I reached $1000 in total app sales, just this
morning. This week I’ve still been working on my gyroscope app.
Thanks Wendy and Alicia and Derek and Mom for your updates - it helps us to
stay close when we can read of your family happenings.
Have an awesome week!
Christopher and Kim
P.S. The word of the week is solace: comfort or consolation in a
time of distress or sadness. From one of the hymns in church yesterday.
