Greetings family!
Happy 80th birthday today to
LaMar! Wish we could come eat cake and ice cream with you, but since we can't,
we'll have some chocolate chip cookies in your honor.
Every week is a busy week, so
I'm sure our updates get a bit repetitive. Here are the highlights of the past
week:
- Adria passed off the mile for her gold trunks award!
This was a huge accomplishment and something she's been working toward all
year. She started the school year with a 9 + minute mile and has whittled
it down to a 7:20 mile! We're so proud of her! She's not full gold trunks
status just yet, though. She still has to pass off her sit cups, push ups,
and arm hang tests. Of the three, the arm hang is going to be the biggest
challenge. She has this coming week to practice, but will be tested next
week. If she doesn't pass, she'll have to wait for next year and have more
strict requirements.
- Rella received her costumes for her ballet performance
on Thursday. She just has a few weeks left until show weekend, and she is
really excited about her dances. She loves her ballet classes and her
teachers are very encouraging. She has some great friends in her classes,
too.
- Calder is doing well in his swimming lessons and is
even starting to swim a little on his own! He's come such a long way...he
was afraid to even get in the water when he started taking lessons last
fall.
- All three kids are doing well in school...Rella and
Calder both have graduation/promotion ceremonies coming up. We still have
2 1/2 weeks of school left. Calder will be attending a little summer
school class for a few weeks in June and July.
- Adria's best friend Lilly is coming to stay with us for
a few days this week and A is super excited! We're giving Lilly the full
SF experience with a trip to Alcatraz and cable car rides. On Friday we'll
let Rella miss school and all of us will head over to Six Flags Discovery
Kingdom in Vallejo for an amusement park day. Adria will be missing a few
days of school to play tour guide, but she already took the initiative to
talk to her teachers and arrange for making up her work. She's always been
dependable, but it's cool to see her taking the responsibility without
being prompted.
- Calder has been improving in speech and eye contact!
We're loving seeing his blue eyes when he talks to us...it's such a big
step!
- Shane and I managed to arrange a little getaway into
the city this weekend...yay! On Friday we did a little sightseeing (stuff
the kids wouldn't be as interested in...Union Square, the entrance to
Chinatown, Yerba Buena Gardens) and then had dinner at a nice restaurant.
The main event was going to see "Hamilton" at the Orpheum
Theater! It was sooooo good! I liked it as much as "Wicked",
which is saying a lot! There is a lot of rap and hip hop, but also some
more traditional broadway-type songs. The cast was great...you always
wonder how the touring cast measures up to the original cast recording. They
were all phenomenal. We stayed in a hotel in the city, then went to brunch
the next day. Then we went to the Land's End Trail and the USS San
Francisco monument. We went to a little pie shop for a snack, then came
home. A sister from the ward came and stayed with our kids and took good
care of things here.
Time to wrap up...have a great
Memorial Day and be safe! We love you!
Shane, Alicia, Adria, Rella, Calder
(& Peggy...the Hamilton Fans will get that one 😉)
