Blackham Update

It's been a few weeks since I've written ... out of the habit.
Gray left Friday for a weekend bike trip in Moab. He's done this a couple times before. They are completely off the grid for a couple days (no cell phone coverage). He gets back tomorrow. He's been having some dizzy spells with his Menieres, so that had us a little concerned with this trip. They do have a support vehicle. He had a bad episode a couple weeks ago (had left for work but didn't make it out of the neighborhood. I did go get him and brought him home to wait it out). He also had an attack this last Tuesday ... he had a derby scheduled for that night too. Landon ended up driving him and the truck/trailer out with Keaton coming in Landon's car. Gray was able to do the derby once there (with the boys setting up) although he would have been better off resting at home. He has quite a few derbies in the next few weeks, so crossing our fingers! He'd like to have Landon/Keaton able to do a derby on their own ... a backup, and it would be a good little money maker for them. Cooper said he's willing to help out with derbies (well, he wants money) so we may have to have him step up to give Keaton a break some of these days.
Our "Golden Girl" duck had been laying eggs (we adopted from someone in the neighborhood) ... then she stopped. Or so I thought. I guess she was tired of me taking them so she switched spots. We've had a little doghouse "duckhouse" since we've had ducks (three years now) but none of them had every really used it. That was her second spot though, and if she was going to sit on the eggs, it would have been a perfect spot! Covered and protected from the weather. But ... it's too late in the season to hatch another brood (although Gray did stick a few eggs in the incubator). As we aren't really using the eggs, and don't really want to keep the ducks during the winter, Chris is going to take them and try out some ducks in addition to his chickens.
Keaton made the decision not to try out for basketball this year. He hadn't enjoyed it as much as Callahan had, and could tell he wasn't the first string choice of the coaches. It does cost quite a bit and he didn't feel it was worth it. He's been working a lot ... too much (31 hours last week and this week) at KFC, plus helping his dad with derbies.
The older boys are into their routines of school and work. Colton's fall basketball has started up. He's on two teams again. 6th grade Grizzlies, and 7th grade Wolves. He had two games on Saturday, and won them both.
I do better with the return to routine, the school schedule. Getting up early again ... often fitting in an hour of elliptical (three 20min sessions) as I get the boys off to school. I generally have watched TV series to entertain me while I workout, but recently I've switched to movies. I haven't seen anything in the theaters in the last couple years (I just don't like to pay the money, just sit ... and I have to have popcorn and treats and there aren't subtitles). Gray and I have watched a few DVDs/streaming movies, but I have a lot to catch up on.
... and now you are caught up on the Blackham bunch activities!
