I love not having to set my alarm and being able to wake up naturally (although I don't wake much later than I did before). I love having Rick home several days a week and being able to go on walks with him! I love the fact that we have so much more time as a family for meals, games, movie nights... I have also been able to finally start some projects that I have wanted to do for a long time but never had time to do, such as many de-cluttering projects and catching up on my blog and doing some work on Dropbox. The only problem with de-cluttering is that all of the thrift shops are closed and so my shed is filling up with bags filled with things ready to donate but I can't donate them!! Rick has been going in to work on Tuesday and Thursdays so that he can do Seminary classes over Zoom with his students and also with his Deaf class. The other three days he stays home but still does a lot of Seminary work. He is really enjoying teaching Seminary online and not having to deal with all of the discipline issues that happen in the classroom!
We are practicing social distancing from everyone (as much as possible) except for with the Williams (our good friends down the street). We have continued to let our kids play together. Neither of us are having our kids play with other kids besides them. We figure it is worth a little extra risk for all of our sanity! Letting our girls have a friend to play with, from the same family, has made this whole process a lot more do-able! Of course we both still have some risk -- their dad is the manager of Standard Plumbing Supply and so he has some exposure to other people through his job and Janelle still works at Papa Murphy's pizza and has some exposure to other people there too. She has worked every night this week. She said that they are required to disinfect every thirty minutes. Our good friend, Curtis Healey, who is a physician in Odgen, has been living in one of their rental homes to remove the worry of exposing his family. That would be hard!
Janelle got her ACT results back and got a 28!! Woo Hoo! We are very proud of her! I was hoping she wouldn't have to take it again, but she looked up scholarships based on an ACT score of 28 and a GPA of 3.9 and she was one point away from a full tuition scholarship at the various Universities in Utah. Frustrating! Janika got a full tuition scholarship with a 3.9 and 28 ACT. Jared got a full tuition scholarship with a lower ACT score than that. They are making the scholarship requirements more difficult! So she will probably take it again to try for that extra point that will land her a full tuition scholarship instead of partial tuition.
Monday 30: I was glad that I went through all of Jenna's school work after she had finished. She just rushes through it, doing really sloppy work, so that she can go play. On one of the assignments she hadn't read the instructions carefully and didn't even do the correct assignment. So I made her re-do her assignments - which she was NOT happy about!! She writes quickly and doesn't even try to spell things correctly or make it so that someone could actually read her writing. I made her go back and write everything with read-able handwriting and correct spelling. I don't think she likes having me as a teacher! Rick started a book with her and so they have been reading together everyday. Josh, Jaiden, and Janelle are completely independent with their schooling and seem to be doing fine.
Rick worked from home today -- which is really nice! Today the pipes below the kitchen sink started leaking and since Rick was home he was able to get it fixed quickly!!
Jaiden suggested we do new headshots of the kids since the ones we have on our wall are two years old. So tonight I curled Jaiden's hair and then did a photo shoot with her around our yard and other areas close by. We got some cute pictures!
Tuesday March 31: Rick went to his office today since he was doing a Seminary class over Zoom for both his regular students and also for the Deaf class. So he had a busy day today with his classes. Tonight for scriptures we discussed a challenge that President Nelson had given last conference -- to imagine what our lives would be if we were suddenly without the knowledge of the Book of Mormon. We each wrote down what our lives would be without the Book of Mormon and then discussed our answers. After scriptures we all watched "Hairspray" together in the basement. Such a fun show!!
Wednesday April 1: Aprils Fools Day! Jenna was disappointed that Rick didn't plan any pranks this year. She said, "It is like waking up on Christmas to NO presents!!" In the evening Rick put Vaseline on the doorknobs to the bathrooms -- so he did do that little prank. The kids were NOT impressed though! I think they have watched so many home videos of Rick's pranks through the years that they expect something crazy!!
Rick and I went for a nice two and a half mile walk this morning. It felt so nice out! Today got up to 75 degrees!!
Rick and Josh have really enjoyed going out and playing pickle-ball almost everyday together, but today the courts were locked up. So disappointing!! Restrictions are just getting tighter and tighter with this whole "social-distancing" thing. I understand the need for social distancing, but pickle ball is a non-contact sport with players on two different sides of a court! I understand the reasons and know that local authorities want to close any places were groups of people might congregate, but it is still disappointing!!
Rick fixed some yummy tacos for lunch! Josh and I have been working on cleaning and de-cluttering his room now that Jase has moved out. We want it to be ready for when Jared comes home in a couple of months! Jenna's teacher had sent their class a Power Point Jeopardy Game on electricity. Jenna was excited to have the family participate in this little game and so we did that tonight. She was the host since she already knew all of the answers.
Josh has been "coaching" Jenna in soccer every evening. Pretty cute! Jaiden started her dance classes today through a youtube link. If Jenna gets a youtube link for her dance classes then I will have Jaiden help her with her classes as well.
Thursday April 2: I went on a nice long walk this morning and then helped Jenna with her school work. Jenna started participating in the grab-n-go lunches at a nearby location. She can get a gluten free lunch there and likes the variety of the school lunches. Rick has learned how to do podcasts through either the phone or Zoom and so he has been able to do some new podcasts for some of the missionaries who just came home in our Stake.
Friday April 3: Rick and I went walking this morning and then I helped Jenna with her schoolwork for an hour or two. Rick also read with her for 20 minutes -- until he accidentally fell asleep! He has been getting up early everyday and getting stuff done. Good for him!
Here are some journal entries for this week:

Tonight was supposed to be Jase and Ellen's reception!! I woke up and mentally went through what today would have been like had not all of this happened. I have mixed feelings on having to cancel. They had so many neat decorations at the reception in South Jordan and they were going to bring down everything for the the reception here. I think we would have had a great turn out if all of this were not going on and I was looking forward to seeing so many friends and members from both our old ward and new ward. But at the same time part of me was relieved not to have to worry about another reception, ha ha!! We got our deposit back from the venue and will just use the money that we had budgeted for the reception and give it to Jase and Ellen.
Let us know how you are all doing!

Yes - the DI closed down pretty quick, and I wonder even when things open up again, if donations will be treated differently. I've done a bit of cleaning out of cupboards and such. Found some lysol wipes and hand sanitizer I didn't know we had. A year or more ago Kim had given out a bunch of little hand sanitizer sprays (looked like a pen) and I still have those, and Gray grabbed a bottle of liquid sanitizer (the liquor stores have started making sanitizer!) so we can refill them, and use that to reconstitute a couple of the older wipes packs that had gone a little dry. We have been able to find bleach again - but yes YEAST is now a very hot item. I had one extra bottle downstairs, so I gave it to Landon, as he's wanted to do more baking (he was into making cheesecakes and flan and cookies and such even before all this started, and now has a little more time on his hands). Back when I baked a bit more, I would buy the big bag (2-pack) of yeast from SamsClub. Now I wish I had that on my food storage shelves! I know you can "make" yeast from old fruit ... but I'm not there yet ;) Funny that the lady got mad at Rick for taking the box of yeast ... I'm pretty sure that's how it's sold! Do they get mad at people for buying a package of TP, expecting them to open it up and just take one roll?
I just pulled out the sewing machine to try to make some homemade cloth masks ... just in case that's the next step, that you are required to have one if you leave the house. After being home for well over a week I did make a run to Smiths to pick up prescriptions and a few groceries. I have plenty of material, but not a lot of elastic (it's the new "TP" in shortages out there).
We haven't had any "friends" in our neighborhood for a long while - so our boys are on their own, so I'm glad they get along. There's been a lot of game playing going on. Just yesterday there was a game of "Sorry" that got so crazy and loud (poor Grayson was attempting to take a nap ...) Spring Break this week, so "no school" even online (although there are some classes they could work ahead on, but when I mention that to the boys they look at me like "WHY would I do school when I don't HAVE to?"JenB
