Messages from Mom ~ Nov 2009

November 4, 2009

Happy 3rd Anniversary to Derek and Danielle!

We are going downtown today. We will miss having lunch with Derek. They both got off work to celebrate the day with each other.

Shane came for lunch Tuesday and we had a nice visit over bacon and eggs and toast. He got rid of the AVG attachment thingy on our email.

We hope all the sickies are getting better--Scott, Colton, Kadan, Cayson have been some of the latest victims! Scott has pneumonia. Boy, things can change fast. The doctor said his lungs were fine on clear on Friday--pneumonia by Sunday! Send all of us a report on how everyone is doing.

Enjoy this beautiful weather for a few more days. We played a little tennis late yesterday afternoon.

Jordan River temple district will finish rolling out with new FamilySearch this coming Monday (Derek) and the first half of Oquirrh temple district will go live (Jeni's). Let us know if and how they announce it in your meetings Sunday. The first group of stakes in Salt Lake temple district will receive their 1-one go-notices this Sunday (us). All of Utah should have new FamilySearch by Thanksgiving!! Click on: News and Updates and click on the 3 temple districts in the bottom group.

love, Mom

From Jen: Colton (and Cooper) have been really off and on. Fine for the most part, up and playing, then they won't feel well. Colton had a hard time last night, lots of coughing. Not sure if it is a side-effect of the medication or the sickness, but several of the sickies have also had diarrhea. Newly potty-trained Colton has been very upset when he's had accidents. He told me "I is never, never, never, never, never, NeVer, NEVER ... going to poop in my pullups again" ... but he did. So far Gray, Landon and myself have managed to avoid the bug.

I ran into D&D at Gene Fullmer Rec Center. They were working out and I was there for Callahan's basketball practice. Landon has decided to try "working" this year as a ref for the younger games. You have to be 14 and go to four hours of training to get hired. We'll see how it goes. Keaton and Callahan will both be playing Jr. Jazz, and then Callahan got scouted for a comp team, so he may be doing double duty basketball, which I'm sure is fine with him, especially during the winter months when he can't play and practice out front. He also was asked to participate in an indoor soccer league, but we did turn that down, afraid the sports schedule would be crazy enough as is.

From Wendy: Hope the kids continue to feel better. Sounds like a busy sports schedule! I wish Josh would become interested in potty training!

Happy Birthday Jen!

We will be going downtown tomorrow (Wed.) this week. Wed. night there is a big coordinating council priesthood meeting for the Pioneer stake. Thursday night even a bigger one (24 stakes) for both of Elder Keetch's 2 councils -- Bonneville and Holladay. We don't have to do anything--just sit on the stand and look purdy, so they can introduce us. They put our names and contact info on one of the slides in their presentation and invite the stakes to use us. Next week we have those coordinating council meetings Tues., Wed., and Thurs. evenings to attend.

Shane will come to lunch Thurs. We'll have to miss lunch again this week with Derek, since he is doing product manager training all day every day this week (with the Church paying for it--good deal!). I guess we'll miss next week with him also. We'll be going in Tuesday for a change because they are offering a free lunch with Elder Marlin K. Jensen in the Nauvoo Room restaurant in the JSMB.

Our weather is still beautiful.

Our talks went well in the Sandy Granite stake Friday evening. My cousin Jody Shaw came to hear us speak (one of Demont and Arlea's girls). We hated to skip out on Chris and the boys after they arrived. The grandparents took us out to lunch at the Golden Corral for my birthday at 2:30 Fri. with Nelva and Arnold-- and Merrill and Lorrie were even able to join us this time. It was nice to visit and we talked so long, and made a quick stop at Smith's, and Chris's bunch were already there when we got home.

We had planned on attending the Tooele Fair on Saturday, but it is over an hour's drive each way and we hated to not visit with Chris and the boys, so we bagged it and stayed home. LaMar went to the race with them. The weather was great for it and Chris won a nice prize. They stayed until about 3 p.m.

Then we went our to Jen and Gray's for a delicious dinner to celebrate my birthday. Gray is quite the chef and it tasted sooo good. The birthday cake was excellent and I've feasted on it for the past two days and sorely hated to see it run out!

We are meeting their family for dinner tonight at a restaurant for Jen's birthday, so that will be fun.

Our talks went fine for the Meadows ward Sacrament meeting in Murray. Then we rushed to our ward in time for SS and RS/priesthood. Our stake received their 1-week go-live notice for new FamilySearch yesterday. So we will go live next Monday. Merrill and Lorrie's stake should have received the same notice also. The rest of Salt Lake temple district will receive notices next Monday, so all of our Utah Salt Lake City Area will be live before Thanksgiving!

Scott said Kemery was so sick she missed a week of school and hardly ate a bite for a week. Now Sandy is sick. Aunt Sharon called yesterday. She was back in the emergency room Sat. with fluid on her lungs because of her heart problems. I guess she is on oxygen all the time at night and in the day if she is not well.

Well, better go grab a bite of breakfast before out 10 a.m. conference call--for support missionary training.

I'm leaving for visiting teaching. Shane, we'll plan on Tuesday for lunch---what would you like? Scott, join us if you are free.

Scott and Amy, we enjoyed our visit with your family yesterday and the delicious turkey dinner, even if Kemery did beat me at Blink! I'd really been in the mood for a turkey dinner for several weeks. I enjoyed some of the leftover turkey and cranberry sauce for breakfast.

Chris, we're praying for you and hope things look up soon and you take a turn for the better!

Merrill, thanks for picking up the folks and having them over for dinner. If any of your family want to visit the deaf branch on the 29th in St. George, we'll be the speakers. I'll send the address if you are interested--couldn't find it right now and it's time for my ride to pick me up. I think it is at 11 a.m. At least speaking there, we got out of doing two 5th Sunday combined priesthood/RS presentations here!

love ya all,  Mom

Hi Kids,

We had to miss Ensign Club Wed. because of Elder Curtis' priesthood training meeting for new FamilySearch. Joen said the program was excellent. The speaker was an attorney for the Church in Europe, with many interesting experiences to tell. We hated to have to miss it.

We went downtown early on Wed. to meet with a lady over family history centers for the Church all over the world. She was a VERY strong personality and was very opinionated. LaMar had already met with her an hour and a half Monday at the family history library downtown on his missionary shift, but she wanted to meet again with both of us. It was hard to get a word in edgewise!

Nelva and Arnold came Wed. and fixed dinner for the grandparents, etc.

Thursday we had a nice lunch with Shane and then had Elder Keetch's double coordinating council meeting, held at the Monument Park building. Merrill, President Thornton (whom we've met before) introduced us to your stake president. He said he was partners with you years ago before you left the firm to go on your own.

Friday night we stopped at Albertsons on the way to the grandparents, gave grandpa a haircut, and played games. We need to get a new haircutting set. Our present one is not working well at all.

This morning we left before 7:30 to speak at a Family History Gratitude breakfast this morning for the staff of the 4 stakes that support the Sandy Crescent South Family History Center, then continued on to the West Jordan Welby Family History Fair. We missed the keynote speaker there, since we arrived late. We would like to have heard him. When we came out about two p.m., the car was really covered with several inches of snow, and we didn't have a snowbrush in the car. We had planned to drive out to Riverton to see a FHC, but because of the snow, just came straight home and had a relaxing evening.

Scott and Amy have invited us to dinner tomorrow right after Church, which will be great. Then we are meeting with the Ensign Stake up in the Avenues for a training meeting at 7 p.m..

Shane, we will be going downtown Thursday this week instead of Tues., as I mentioned before. They changed the date of the missionary luncheon in the Nauvoo Room and it will now be with Elder Sybrowsky instead of Marlin K. Jensen. Maybe they switched days because there is a missionary dinner Tues. night in the JSMB Relief Society room. We will have to miss that though because of a priesthood training meeting for one of Elder Tate's coordinating councils. Scott, your stake is one of the stakes in that council, so if you go, we'll see you there.

So, Shane, you could come to lunch any day but Monday or Thursday. Derek, we'll miss lunch with you this week and the next week we'll be leaving Wed. morning for St. George. How did your week of Product Manager Training go? When do you take your test?

It is Grayson's birthday Thursday, on the 19th and Rick's birthday next Sat. on the 21st. Gray, we could take you out to dinner for your birthday on Wed. if you wanted. We could try the Texas Roadhouse or Johnny Carinos. We are going to skip the Priesthood meeting that night for the Wyoming coordinating council. It's a long way to Evanston to attend. The department leaders said it would be okay for us to miss it. We were there not long ago. Then we'll attend the meeting for Elder Tate's 3rd council on Thursday evening.

Merrill and Lorrie are going to St. George for Thanksgiving also. So Nelva and Arnold, we hope you can have the grandparents to your place. I know getting them there is the hard part.

Chris, we hope you start feeling better. We're glad you haven't caught the flu, on top of everything else--keep it that way!

Have a great Sabbath, everyone.
love, Mom/Margie

Hi Wendy, Just read your blog. You really are a good writer--what a hoot! Sorry you all had--are having-- a rough time sometimes. Hopefully we can help some while we are there, and not add to the stress level--though you seem to handle company fine.

It snowed here yesterday--starting about 5 p.m. or so, while we were in our meeting. So we had to brush off the car and drive home in a snowstorm. It is a beautiful winter wonderland--sunshine, blue sky, the grass is all covered and the tree branches coated, but the roads are clear now.

Shane just called. He said if he was independently wealthy, he could be Mr. Mom all the time and enjoy it. The conference calls are just a little difficult with screaming girls in the background! I talked to Rella and her stuffed dog.

Have a great day!

We just got back from playing tennis. I just didn't have much energy today--didn't get too much sleep last night--you know what a lousy sleeper I am--do good every other night. But I lasted 45 minutes at tennis and got 2000 steps on my pedometer. Wendy and I have worked out the past two days with her Biggest Loser DVD. Dad walks each morning when he gets up early, so he's over his 10,000 steps already!

We had a great Thanksgiving and have been enjoying the leftovers. We're going to take Rick and Wendy out to lunch today, and then shop a bit. We watched the newest "Star Trek" movie one night (which I've been wanting to see for a long time) and we watched "Angels and Demons" last night.

Earlier last night I went with W and R to their weight loss class. Rick was the biggest loser with 4 lbs., so that was nice. Then we went shopping at a couple of stores. Rick took the two oldest kids and Janika's friend shopping at 11 p.m.Thanksgiving night and 4:30 a.m. the next morning for the Black Friday sales! Wendy said Rick does all the Christmas shopping and decorating. That would be nice!

LaMar and Wendy's family participated tonight in the Tuacahn live Nativity. I stayed home and tended the baby. They left at 5 p.m., had a dress rehearsal, and then were in two 20-min. shows on the stage, with a camel, 2 goats, a few chickens, and a horse. They were shepherds, wiseman, angel, and townspeople. They got home about 9 p.m. They had a fun time. It is an annual event, every night but Sunday until Christmas. Just different families and people choose to participate and others come and watch.

We went to a Mexican Restaurant, then I blew about $300 at Deseret Book!

We will be the speakers at their Sacrament meeting tomorrow, so I hope that goes well. We hope you get over your cold soon Derek and that Danielle doesn't catch it. We hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving! We will head home Monday morning, stopping to visit at Chris's on the way.

Love, Mom
