Chris&Kim - Messages in March (2020)

9 Pictures - Solutions, Casandra got married  -
Mon, Mar 2, 7:02 AM

Westra Family and Friends (March 2, 2020)

Hi all. This may be a quick one. Casandra got married to Wayne Sharp Saturday night and it went well. Kim made 150 crepes (shooting for 200 but we ran out of time). The wedding was well attended so Kim was worried she didn’t have enough, but we had leftovers, especially the filling. Some people were surprised to see me (and Kim) there, but all were friendly. One lady that found out who we were looked at me and then and Wayne and said, "I think she has a type".

Corin and Kylie came and stayed here Friday night, and Kadan and Christine stayed Saturday night after the wedding. Sunday we had a dinner in the evening and Conner and Polly came (Amber was out of town). Also Grandma and Grandpa and Krystal and Boris. Camden and Cayson were already here. Kim’s grilled chicken is awesome - everyone loves it. I’m not much of a meat person, but I do love her chicken.

More happened but this week is upon me so I’ve got to get this out and get going on other projects! We did tend Integrity Saturday and Kim was busy with crepes so I got to play with her a lot. I taught her how to climb the ladder to the top of the slide (she had trouble knowing where to place hands at the top). Elder Aaron Taylor is staying with Elder Montero for another transfer. We are glad of that. I went to Grandma and Grandpa's house Thursday and worked, and Dad and I went walking at Wheeler Farm.

Integrity, Chickens, Peru - Christopher and Kim Update
Mon, Mar 9, 4:56 AM

Westra Family and Friends (March 9, 2020)

Happy birthday to Elder Jared Jensen! Aaron’s is coming up later this month and we did send him off a package that he should get in time. Kim taught in Relief Society (Women’s meeting) and she said it went well. She practiced giving the lesson to me Saturday evening. Cayson was here all weekend and Camden came Sunday to join us.

Saturday we were able to play with Integrity in the afternoon. Kim read lots of books to her, and played lots of games with her. She helped me process my rocks from the polisher. We all went outside and Integrity and I went down the slide. I would catch her as she went down the slide so she wouldn’t hit her bottom on the ground. When I went down the slide she stood at the bottom with her hands out and said, “I catch you!“.

While we had her, Courtney just went to the library to work on her homework. At one time integrity asked where her mom was, and Kim said “at the library”. Integrity said, “to get more books for me?” Her language skills are incredible for being just a little over two years old.

Saturday evening Kim and I did some research and planning for her Peru trip with Krystal and hopefully Boris to pick up Aaron. He will be released October 26.

Friday evening we went to a 33rd anniversary party for Boris’s parents, in a building at the Lindon city park. They had all kinds of great food call man people were very friendly. We were in the minority not being able to speak Spanish. Most of the people there could speak English also but a few could not. We sat across from Sabrina, Boris’s sister, And it was good to get to know her a little better.

I found a couple who may take over the Airbnb Manager job. I met with them for over an hour Thursday evening.

Thursday I went into Salt Lake to work at grandma and grandpa’s house. I did a few office jobs and then outside work. The day was beautiful! Grandpa and I went walking up by the old mill. We went further west on the trail than we have before.

In doing this family history photo project for grandma and grandpa, I separated out about 1400 old pictures that I could not immediately find a name or a date for. I initially went onto FamilySearch website to compare the photo and question with the photos are they online for a person. But then I started to attach the photos if they were a match, and so I’m learning a lot about the ins and outs of the amazing family search website. https://www.familysearch.org/en/

Here is Prosperity Poem 68 - Prosperity Is... https://prosperitypoems.com/delivery68ProsperityIs.html
I was driving home from Grandma and Grandpa’s house in the evening, and enjoying the evening glow on the snowy Utah mountains. Snow can be so beautiful and soft, and yet it can be powerful and strong under some circumstances also. The snow here in the mountains of Utah nourish the valleys all summer long, so snow can be giving as well. I thought of how prosperity can be soft and incremental, and strong, and giving! The whole poem was in my head by the time I got home.

The chickens have been busy making good dirt for us - every day while the sun shines. See the pics below. I’ve been spreading it into the gardens and flowerbeds.

Have a great week!

School out - home church, living life - Kadan update also -

Westra Family and Friends (March 16, 2020)

Good morning all..! This may be a quick letter but there is some news from Christine and Kadan down below.

Friday evening Kim and I went to the wedding dinner for Jase and Ellen. Ellen was super confident and went around meeting her new relatives, even when Jase wasn’t right with her. They look so happy. It was well attended.

Then on Saturday we went to the temple ceremony in the Draper Temple. In the evening we took Cayson with us to the reception, which was beautiful. They had pizza and desserts and I had Cayson take a couple pictures.

Thursday evening I went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house to work and took Grandpa up hiking near the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Camden joined us on Saturday, or he came to the house late Saturday. We did our home church in the morning, and Kim made French toast. Camden and Cayson are out of school for two weeks (at least). Their district will try to set up some online instruction so they can keep learning and not have to make up so many days into the summer.

Krystal’s teaching schedule is actually easier! She now only teaches two classes instead of four, and the students who were present in class now access the lessons online. She was already teaching hundreds of young people online so she was already set up for that.

Kim is still going to work, but they are seeing fewer patients. We are still planning on our two day - one night trip to Capitol Reef next weekend. On Monday we had Seth and Aspen and also Seth, Courtney, and Integrity over for dinner. Kim had the idea to take pics by the rock where they used to take back to school pics each year. Ahh, one photo is missing, I'll try and find it before next week.

Have a super week!

P.S. Update from Kadan and Christine below -

Hey There Fam,

So it definitely has been like pulling teeth trying to get sales. I've been experimenting with Facebook Ads, but that's been mostly unsuccessful so far. We've been consistent with Instagram posts, but we need to get more exposure on that platform as well. One blogger finally got back with us, so now we can work with her a little bit to get more content on our site and our to our list.

What a time to start a business right? Presidential elections and global pandemic? Geeze.. We are learning a lot though, and if this business fails, we'll be smarter and wiser when we start the next one.

My 6-month motorcycle temporary operator permit expires Saturday, and somehow I misplaced it this week. On top of that, Christine and I rode it to the DLD last week so I could practice the test maneuvers on their course, but it died right as we pulled in, and it won't start now. I took of the carb and cleaned it good, put on a new fuel filter, checked and gapped the spark plugs, and it still won't start. I feel like it's something simple but I can't figure it out. I had my test scheduled for today, but I had to reschedule that for later, which also means I had to renew my temporary operator for another 6 months. Annoying.

That wasn't the only reason today was eventful though. Whether you watch the news or not, some of you may know that the Coronavirus has now been proclaimed a global pandemic, and actions are actively being taken to prevent the spread of it. At the direction of the governor, SUU, along with other government schools, are moving the majority of their courses online effective after Spring Break. I'm happy about this because it will give me a little more flexibility in my schedule on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Besides that, it is a little bit of a bummer. Pretty crazy though. Some people told me Disneyland is mostly empty and you can just ride the rides all day with no lines, so I was thinking about going but they apparently made the decision to close their gates today as well.

Young people and people in good health are not at serious risk, but we certainly could help spread it. Airplane tickets are so cheap though! It's tempting. The elderly appear to be at the most risk, or those with underlying health conditions and/or weak immune systems.

Definitely wash your hands and all.

No final decision has been made yet about commencement, but keep in mind that it may not even happen. I'll be sure to update yall when I know.

Anyway, we hope everyone is doing well. Hopefully no one runs out of toilet paper anytime soon.

Have a great week!

11 Pics - Aaron Birthday and News - Christopher and Kim Update
Mar 30, 2020, 5:34 AM

Westra Family and Friends (March 30, 2020)

Happy birthday to Aaron. Twenty years old today! Mom and Dad, thanks for your updates - we are glad you are safe.

Well this week we...
Didn’t go out to eat at a restaurant.
Didn’t go to a theater and watch a movie.
Didn’t go visit anybody.
Didn’t go to church.
Didn’t go to the gym.
Didn’t get a haircut.

Kim did get to talk to Elder Aaron Taylor. Peru has extended their closed borders until April 12 or so. So hopefully Aaron will be able to get a flight home soon after that. Keep praying for him. We talked to Courtney and Integrity via Facetime this week, and that was fun. We talked to Krystal another evening, and Conner another. Then Corin and Kylie, and then Kadan and Christine. I called Mom a couple mornings and chatted. Kim has been writing Vikki and learning their news. We have enjoyed staying in touch. I always call Camden and Cayson every evening. Camden went camping with friends. Cayson is somewhat bored, but reading a lot and working with Wayne sometimes. Conner is still working. See the pic of his tile work in a bathtub and shower.

Friday Kim had work off. We are grateful that she still has work, AND we loved having a three day weekend together. Friday we did a lot of cleaning and organizing, as well as my usual computer work. I’m pretty picky about watching shows, but we did find one. I looked up “Shows like Virgin River”, as that was a show we liked. We found Cedar Cove, which is similar. Enjoyable, but not intense.

Saturday we went on a drive all the way around Utah Lake, and found a couple of different spots to go on short hikes. The first place was still pretty cold, but on the second hike things had warmed up and the sun came out and it was very pretty. I included a couple of pictures. We were hiking in the Lake mountains.

Our gospel study has actually improved during this time as we don’t have any events in the evening. Kim has received more foot massages per week than ever before! We had one of our chickens die - probably some virus. Just kidding! I sing while I do yard work, and I have a limited number of memorized songs. The chicken probably just couldn’t stand one more rendition of “There is Sunshine in My Soul Today” and laid down and died.

So I had to go deepen a hole in the chicken coop and bury the chicken.

Seth Worthen, I’ve enjoyed your photography pics! One photo editing app that I’ve really enjoyed is Snapseed. I heard that if you only get one photo editing app, it should be Snapseed. Anyway, it’s really easy and fun to use.

I moved my work computer and desk down to the living room, in the northwest corner. The ambience is better, and Kim and I are able to be together more. I also finished the backsplash and put it up onto the wall, which was a difficult feat without Conner or anyone else to help.

Sunday we did our home church at 11:00, and did the sacrament.

Here is prosperity poem 71, incipience. Right now I have 62 patrons.

Have a great week!
Christopher and Kim.
