Quick D&D Update - School, Home Projects, Parody Children's Book, Old Roxy

Hey Family!
It's been a while since we've provided an update! Jen even created one for us from my Facebook posts! Haha!
Things are going well for us. We started school for the girls last week. It was a last-minute decision to send them -- we were planning to do online school (through the elementary) but that just didn't feel right, so we ended up sending them, and we feel good about that decision. The schools seem to be taking things really seriously and the girls LOVE to go. Noelle is still home with us since her pre-school doesn't do masks, but wishes she could go too. The kids are loving it and it has been great to have a routine back!
Despite COVID, we've had a fun Summer and have done some fun family things. We went up camping (Danielle and Noe left early to sleep at home) last weekend. We've done hiking, ice-blocking, bubble parties (which if you're interested in a fun outdoor thing - they have these giant bubble-machines you rent), Parade of Homes, Drive-In movies, Utah Taste-Off home deliveries (you should try this), Kayaking, Hogle Zoo, etc.
Ani was on swim-team this year and did really well. We're proud of her for getting up early every morning and jumping in that cold pool! I'd take her each day and then run in the trails behind our house - so it's been good exercise for both of us. We've stayed really busy with home projects this Summer (our deck, garden (rookies), patio, patio ceiling, rain-gutters, etc). We're projected-out (and we don't say that often!) :) Here's a little video we did of our "outdoor artwork + projector screen." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hQSMGq-8Hk&t=12s
Ani has been wanting one of those "Pocket Mod" scooters, and has started doing jobs for us to earn money. We started a money chart and she's been practicing babysitting, cleaning, etc. Danielle's Dad is a property manager and knew that Ani is wanting to earn money, so he offered to have us help take care of a couple of his properties. Ani is cute and takes it very seriously, saying "Dad, you need to let me do all the work, so I can keep all the money." :) It's been a fun thing to do together. In fact, we've even played with the idea of starting a little business together (either washing windows, trimming trees, or detailing cars), to teach her entrepreneurship.
Speaking of creative ventures - I've had a dumb little idea for a parody children's book for a while. We were talking to our friends about their new sofa, and she was saying: "so, we got the new sofa, and we love it - but it doesn't match our room perfectly, so we needed to get some new throw pillows, and then a rug - but the rug was too big for the space so we had to..." then she proceeded to talk about all the things that resulted from the new sofa. I joked how it was like the kid's book "If You Give A Mouse a Cookie." So I finally sat down and wrote out "If You Give a Spouse a Sofa" in the same style. See attached. I'd love your feedback. Chris and Scott are poets (Scott's been holding out on us and has some pretty great material - sources close to him suggest that some of it may even be a rap). :) Several others of you are great writers - I'm planning to find an illustrator to draw pictures for the book that are in a similar style to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - so let me know what suggestions/changes you have before I finalize it! (story text here)
Poor Roxy isn't doing very well. She is coming up on 12 years old, and is declining. She still eats well and loves to go on walks, but she has seizures daily now, and we aren't sure how much longer she'll be with us. It's a hard thing - she's my first dog, and was really our "baby" through our infertility. It's hard to know what to do, and when it might be her time.
Hope you are all doing great! We love you all!
Love,
Deriellenistalaynoe
