Chris&Kim ~3 August 2020

Integrity, House, Rocks, Summer Fruit - Christopher and Kim Update August 3, 2020

Seth and Aspen bought a house in American Fork, on Center Street. So that’s exciting for them (and their dog).

Saturday we played with Integrity. We made rock faces and she had a lot of fun gluing everything on. She called the glue “glitter”. “OK, it’s time to use the glitter”. “Papa, pass me the glitter”. No matter how many times I said “glue”, it was still glitter.

I cut up a box to use some flaps to protect the table. So we had a half box and she sat in it and said, “Is this a sport?” (Fort). She couldn’t get the “F” sound. She remembers the other forts we made outside with a larger box. As she sat there she looked around the box disparagingly, and said, “It’s not a sport yet.”

We played hide and seek and when I was looking for her I would say out loud, “I’m looking for a little girl.” Then when I hid and she looked for me she said, “I’m looking for a little…. Big boy”. She is so good natured and fun to play with. She helped me pick fruit for Krystal, who stopped by after a bike ride. Krystal read her some books.

Tuesday Corin came here and worked a few hours. He made a little rock “place” for the barbecue - to get it off the patio and so it’s easier to access and use. See pic. Thursday Corin and I went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house Thursday and worked all day. It was hot - but fortunately Corin and I can both take the heat fine.

Friday evening Corin and Kylie came to dinner for a “Preparedness Night”. We ate food from our food storage (a dehydrated meal) and Corin helped us figure out a few preparedness tools we have. Corin also taught Kim his method for making wheat bread.

I created a new page for Margie’s Messages - on Health

And here is Prosperity Poem 86 - Ten to One. 95,742 poems read.

Panorama from West Mountain this morning - I got there before sunrise to collect some rocks before it got too hot. https://prosperitypoems.com/images/2020PanoramaWestMountain.JPG

P.S. Here is an update from Kadan and Christine in Cedar City

Life Update 065 - from Kadan and Christine -

Hey there family!
Christine and I have been curious about how much home we could afford for some time now, so we finally went to see a lender about getting pre-approved. She was very helpful, and gave us theoreticals for several different scenarios. We did make an offer on a duplex that our agent told us about. It wasn't listed on the MLS, but the seller chose to take a cash offer despite ours being higher. We want a multifamily property so we can help pay the mortgage with the rental income, but those are few and far between, especially in Cedar City. It will probably be a while before we find one, but it's good to know how much we can afford at different income levels, and what the payment would look like.

Derik and I have been pretty busy but working on the boat as often as we can, which is generally once or twice a week. We finally got all the wood restoration work finished, and now we're in the recarpeting phase. Tonight we hope to finish most of the carpet work. The next step will be to reupholster all the seats and padded side-pieces. Wish us luck! Trying to get this done before we don't have any Summer left to enjoy it with.

After giving the numbers some thought in regard to my health insurance conundrum, I concluded that it was highly statistically improbable that I would require medical care in excess of $8k+ on an annual basis during this phase of my life. That being the case, spending $3-4k a year for such a policy doesn't make any logical sense. I had decided to go without health insurance, but did worry about getting injured and not being able to pay the bills for something like that. So I decided to not ride my motorcycle, to avoid getting into an accident.

Then, I came across an ad for something called "injury insurance". As I looked into it, I realized this was perfect for someone like me! I'm young and very healthy. I'm in the percentage of people who make insurance companies profitable.

The company is called Life by Spot, and for the affordable price of just $25/mo, they will cover medical bills up to $20k per injury. No deductible. The policy doesn't cover any illness or disease or dental, just injuries. So if I'm riding my motorcycle and my bike malfunctions and causes me to get into an accident that isn't the fault of the other driver, Spot will cover up to $20,000 of my medical bills for injuries resulting. No deductible. This can happen multiple times in a single year without any problem.

With my health, I'm much more likely to have medical costs from injuries than I am from illness or disease.

Grandma, you mentioned the costs of getting COVID. I've known several people who have gotten it with good health, and their symptoms have been mild. Honestly I kind of hope I get it so I can just get my two-week quarantine over with at this point. Getting COVID would be much more expensive for someone with underlying conditions.

The only thing this doesn't solve is dental. So, instead of going to the dentist every 6 months, as is recommended, I'll just go once every year or so, and pay for the cleaning out of pocket. I haven't had a cavity in years. I'll still be saving tons of money because Spot will only cost me $300/year instead of 10x that.

The policy also includes a very modest $50,000 of coverage in the case of accidental death or dismemberment.

What are your thoughts on this option? Obviously it won't work for my entire life, but it's an almost optimal solution for my specific situation.

My coverage starts tomorrow, and I'm excited to start riding my motorcycle again.
