Dear Kids 14 Mar 2017

Here’s Dad (grandpa) with another letter. My last letter to all our kids was 16 Jan 2017.

Here’s a recap of the past week or so.

8 March 2017 – Wednesday -- We got a phone call from Scottie. He told us about a new app, Take a Name. We downloaded the app on our cell phone and Margie’s IPAD. Margie went visiting teaching. Merrill and Lorrie called and came at 5:55 to pick us up for Ensign Club. Joen also went with us. We had a good meal, and heard from our speaker, Sheldon Childs and his wife.

9 March 2017 – Thursday -- We did our shift at the CHL and did work on the pioneer trail.

10 March 2017 – Friday -- I did my regular phone shift. We headed out for dinner at McGraths with Chris and Kim. We were on our way, when we got a call from Kim. They had gotten to McGraths early, and McGraths was closed--forever. We changed plans and went to the Blue Lemon just west of Dans. We had a good meal and visit. Then we met back at our house for some games of Rummikub. We feel bad it has closed--it was one of our favorite places.

11 March 2017 – Saturday. Camden called last night and asked if they could come spend Sat. with us and work, etc. I got out to work with the boys. I had the boys take the lights off our two trees in front, and dig two dirt buckets under the deck, and we got lots more leaves out of the flower gardens, and sand pile. I had Camden empty the green container of sand, and pour it in the trench south of the pond. We worked on the pond, and filled it. Camden got more sand from west of the house, and from the sand pile, and placed lots of flat rocks into the sand for a rock way. Camden also cut down lots of the plants on the waterfall. Cayson filled two big containers full of composted dirt from a hole in the triangle area. It was a nice warm day. I sprayed thousands of Box Elder bugs. We then walked down to deliver a birthday present to Michelle Cannon, and then played some tennis. We took the boys home, 6:25 on our way to the wedding reception for Steven Zentner, more west. We had a hard time finding the reception place. We had a good meal there, cheesy potatoes and salad, and stuff I couldn't eat. Mom fixed the boys lunch and dinner. The boys both worked 3 hours outside with me.

12 March 2017 – Sunday -- I went to the 9:00 choir practice at the Nelsen residence. We went to our 11-2 church meetings, speakers were Robin and Mary Egan, very good, about their 12 years away from the ward in YSA callings. Back home, the visiting teachers beat us home. I did my home teaching. We went to dinner at Scott and Amy's. We had a great dinner: roast beef, veggies, fruit salad. We left from there and drove the frontage road to Derek’s. We played with the kids, and went for a walk to a nearby park. We had ice cream and headed back home about 8:30.

13 March 2017 – Monday -- We got out in the nice sunshine for lots of yard work.

Coming events:

Tomorrow, we are going downtown again for another shift at the CHL for our usual Pioneer Trail work. Thursday, we have a busy day: grandparents day at Colton’s school, Chris visit, hike, Camden’s music program. Sunday, another dinner invite at Chris and Kims.

Katie's son Anderson is getting married a couple months before his temple wedding in June in Japan. Japan is one of the countries that doesn't recognize Temple marriages and requires a civil marriage first. Walker gets off his mission in June, so Katie's family will go to Japan for both events.

We love you all. Love, Dad, Grandpa

Attached is a flyer about Derek, speaking downtown on Thurs. March 23 (if you want to come hear him), and here is the little teaser site on the Church History Museum page: https://history.lds.org/article/evenings-at-the-museum/pure-religion-an-unprecendented-year-of-caring-for-the-poor-and-needy?lang=eng

He has two presentations other presentations to give that same day (to the Presiding Bishopric and Correlation General Authorities) that are different presentations. Bet he will be glad when that busy day is over!
