Here is our update for the week!! Spring Break went way too fast! I wrote about Monday in last week's letter and so I will continue on with Tuesday.
Tuesday we meet the Williams at the Children's Museum and all of the kids had a great time. Allison and I ran into another mom there that we knew and the three of us just gabbed the entire time -- which is why all of the pictures on the blog are only from the first room (the new dinosaur room) because then I got distracted. We then met the Williams at chick-fil-a for lunch and the kids had fun playing on the playground.
The kids and I ran over to Costco to order Jaiden some new glasses. Her glasses broke on Sunday. They were getting pretty old anyway and it actually worked out well because it forced her to finally learn how to use her contacts. It helped that it was Spring Break and so she had plenty of time to get them in and out without feeling stressed and rushed (like most school mornings) and after a few days she felt comfortable taking them in and out. It's about time!! Her new glasses should be ready in about a week.
Tonight Jared went to work and the rest of us watched a movie from Redbox -- "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children." It was a little weird, but we liked it. All four of the Williams children had come over for a movie party last night watching "Storks," and so they invited Jenna over to watch "Lady and the Tramp" at their house tonight (we thought Miss Peregrine's might be too creepy for them) but Emily and Bradley came over to watch it.
Wednesday morning I got my hair done, hurried home for lunch, and then went to a four hour interpreting job. I left Jared some money so that he could take the kids to the dollar store. He later went and hung out with friends. Tonight was yet again another movie party -- watching "Moana." The girls had seen it with Adria and Rella but Josh and I hadn't seen it yet. Cute movie! Jared and friends then came over for a late night movie.
Thursday morning I went walking in the morning and then brought the kids hiking on a little trail that overlooks the city. We had fun hiking and taking pictures. We then went to Walmart to buy soccer cleats for Josh and Jenna. We also got some shoes for the three youngest. Janika and Grandma arrived from Ogden shortly after we got home.
Janika had gone to Ogden for the weekend and went to the Singles Ward with her cousin, Shelby, on Sunday. Two guys (friends of Shelby) asked for Janika's phone number. Janika job shadowed Gerilyn on Monday and it confirmed her desire to become an elementary school counselor. She will need to get a Master's degree though. I assumed that school counselors would earn quite a bit more than teachers, but they don't -- it is just barely more -- and the salary of teachers is pathetically low. Teaching is such a time-consuming, difficult, and important job. I think they should be paid way more than they are!
Gerilyn paid Janika to help her with her home renovation Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday all day. Janika worked hard and Gerilyn was generous -- which was nice -- she needs it!! Tuesday night Janika went out with one of the guys she met at the Singles Ward named Colby. They made cookies with a few other couples. She said it was a lot of fun. Wednesday she went to USU with one of her roommates. She said it went great and she feels really good about her decision to go there. Her roommate decided on BYU, however, and Janika really doesn't want to start over with roommates she doesn't know. She has been researching various housing options but is hoping that she can find someone to room with.
Wednesday night Nate asked out Janika (He lives up near Ogden). I was wondering if he was going to get back together with her, but he didn't, which is probably for the best. She was nervous, but said the date was really fun and comfortable. Thursday morning Colby asked her out for breakfast before she left town. She said that it was really fun and that she had a good time. She and Grandma Jensen headed to St. George so that Grandma could visit with us for a few days.
I discovered that our upstairs Air Conditioning wasn't working at all and so I did some research and called someone in to look at it. It turns out that we need a whole new unit and it will cost almost $3000.00. I guess it is a good thing that Rick went to Vegas to work this week.
Tonight I fixed some Papa Murphy pizzas that were in our freezer along with some salad for dinner. It felt so good out and so I suggested that we go for a walk. The kids all rode their bikes -- until Josh crashed and scraped up his arm and leg. He also hurt his hand/wrist. Rick arrived home from Vegas when we were cleaning up Josh's scrapes. I really don't think anything is broken, but Josh kept complaining about it and so Rick found my old carpal tunnel brace for Josh to wear and he has worn it for three days since.
I was glad that Rick decided to come home from Vegas a day early so that we could spend some time together! He said it went well -- it wasn't nearly as busy as it was last year though and so he didn't make as much, but he still made a good amount and he was also able to have time to finish his Seminary grades, prepare his Sunday School lesson, and work on home videos.
Friday we all went to Thunder Junction -- the new all abilities park (except for Jared). Rick met us there since a guy was coming to give us a bid on our roof. Rick is really worried about our roof and thinks we need to replace it as soon as possible, but we are concerned that it will cost thousands of dollars and we just don't have the funds right now. We have asked around to several neighbors who recently had their roofs done and are getting a few bids before deciding what to do.
The kids had fun at the park -- except for Josh who was moping around and complaining that he didn't feel well. Rick took him home early and the rest of us rode the little train that goes around the park.
Rick and I teamed for a seminar in town for four hours tonight and four hours on Saturday -- which is nice because it was time and a half pay. I thought the seminar would be really long and boring, but it was actually really interesting and fun and I learned a lot! We are so blessed to be able to interpret together for things like this!
Jared worked tonight, Jaiden and Janelle went to Ivins Reservoir with the Purdy's and Carter, and then came over to our house for games (until 11:00 p.m.) Josh and his friend, Brock, had been invited to a girl's house with another couple of girls. The girl's parents brought them all out to eat at the Pizza and Pasta Factory by Lins, which apparently they own or something. Then they played gamed until 9:00. So the only ones home were Grandma, Janika, and Jenna and so they brought her out to eat at Arctic Circle.
Saturday Jared had a work meeting and then worked all day. Rick and I worked at the seminar and left the kids with a job list. Saturday night Rick and Grandma and the kids played Settlers of Catan while I did computer work. Janelle was really excited about going to her first Stake dance now that her friends were finally old enough to go with her. So I curled her hair and put makeup on her and she looked really cute.
But her friends wanted to leave after only an hour. Janelle said it was boring at first but that it was just starting to pick up as more people came and felt like they didn't give it enough of a chance. She was disappointed and wanted to stay, but didn't want to be left alone and so she went her friends to go play games at one of their houses.
Janika had been asked out on a date tonight by Zak Bess. He brought her out to dinner, to a wedding reception, and to see "Beauty and the Beast." She loved the movie and enjoyed the evening.
Sunday Janika curled Jaiden and Jenna's hair, which was a huge help! We had the missionary homecoming of Bruce and Sherry Anderson, who just returned home from serving in the office in a mission in Texas. It sounds like the mission president is a really good friend of theirs and asked if they would be willing to come out and serve. It sounds like it was a wonderful experience for them.
Rick taught Sunday School today. We fixed a casserole for dinner with salad and vegies and several side dishes. Janika and Grandma left -- Janika was dropping off Grandma to relatives in Manti. It is nice that Grandma Jensen could come for a few days. She played lots of games with the kids and they loved having her! I was also glad that Janika didn't have to drive alone from Ogden or back to school alone.
Well, now it is back to our busy routine tomorrow! I put some of the pictures from this week on the blog if you want to check them out: http://wendyjensen.blogspot.com Hopefully I will get the rest entered in soon! Wendy
