Happy Sunday!
We're headed out the door in a few
minutes to have dinner at a friend's house, so here's the bullet point edition
of the family update:
- Colds--everyone at our house has a cold. Rella is the
only one who seems to have escaped without having major symptoms. Calder
stayed home from school on Monday and Tuesday. He also had to miss speech.
Adria came home from school early on Monday. We're all trying to get more
sleep and fight it off the best we can.
- Animation club--Adria started attending animation club
after school on Fridays. She really enjoyed the animation class, so she's
really excited to be at it again!
- Brandon Mull--one of our favorite authors, Brandon
Mull, was at a little bookshop in San Carlos for a presentation and book
signing on Friday afternoon. The kids and I attended and got some books
signed.
- Elders Quorum Fireside--also on Friday (it was a busy
day), the Elders Quorum hosted a fireside with one of the members of the
stake presidency and his wife. It was about things they've done to
strengthen their family over the years. Examples were limiting evening
speaking engagements for work, eating dinner together as a family every
day, focusing on teaching their children principles and then helping them
see how to put those principles into practice (for example, they taught
their children to serve whoever made the meal first, then to serve the
person next to them). Calder was having a hard time playing with the other
kids in the gym, so I missed some of the talk trying to get him sorted
out.
- We went to the 4th birthday party of Ava (Shane's
former bosses' daughter) yesterday. They are always so kind to invite us
to stuff. They live in Los Altos Hills, about a half hour away. Their
backyard is one that Margie would like...you can see 2 other houses that
are further up the hill, but they are pretty far off...the rest of the
view is just trees and sky! It's beautiful and peaceful. The party was
"Trolls" themed, including a troll piñata. Adria thought the
piñata was so sad, looking out at the view and thinking "Today is the
day I die." We may have to review her reading material and make sure
she's left off reading the horror stories. Rella enjoyed the face
painting, Calder liked the trampoline and playhouse.
- General Women's Conference--the girls and I went to our
friends' house to watch Womens' Conference and have dinner. It was shorter
than it has been in the past...only an hour and 15 minutes! Then we
chatted and played and went out for ice cream.
- Pinewood Derby--our cub scouts invited the ward to
participate in the Pinewood Derby again. The kids just used the same cars
as last year, and Calder's did pretty well. Mostly they enjoyed playing
with their friends and cheering each other on.
- Knitting hats for Newborns--we had our YW activity on
Tuesday this week so one of our Laurels could teach us how to knit hats on
looms (she usually has dance class on Wednesday nights, so she can almost
never attend our normal activities.) We used the little hat looms and the
girls all caught on quickly.
That's it! Hoping for better health
this coming week! Love you all!
Shane, Alicia, Adria, Rella, Calder,
and Kleenex
