Chris&Kim ~ June #3

City of Rocks, Castle Rocks - Anniversary Trip - Callahan and Kate Wedding
Christopher and Kim Update  Jun 16, 2020

Westra Family and Friends~ Happy birthday to Ani…! Wow, 10 years old. And Christine also! Our eighth anniversary was yesterday.

We were not able to play with Integrity on Saturday, so we made arrangements to have her come over on Monday evening. We had a great time as usual! Kim wanted to dance with her and put on some music. Integrity exclaimed, “that’s my favorite song!“ We knew that of course, but it was just funny.

Wednesday evening was Kate and Callahan’s wedding - they held it at the White Shanty Venue in Provo. It was great to see lots of family there and the wedding was beautiful.

I told Corin that for Father’s Day I wanted Him to go with me to get some large rocks. So we met each other up there at noon on Tuesday. It was a cooler day, so noon was better. If it had been a super hot day, if we would’ve gone very early. It was a tough job getting that huge rock into the truck, But we did it. We got a few other large ones also. He brought his truck and I had the pilot.

Thursday I went with Cayson and Corin to grandma and grandpa‘s house to work. I taught Corin how to do rock work, and he did wonderfully! I figured that with his sculpting and woodwork that he would be a natural with his hands.

Saturday morning Kim and I headed out on our little trip to southern Idaho, Castle rock State Park and city of rocks national reserve. We thought that our Airbnb house was in Malta because that was the little city listed, but it ended up being in Almo. But that was OK, since it was actually closer to the parks. We had a horse and some cows as our neighbors - see pics.

The weather was beautiful and our Airbnb house was very nice. We also wandered into Heffalump territory on one of our hikes on Sunday. The signs clearly marked the borders of the Heffalump habitat but we were unable to get a photograph.

When I planned the trip, I knew about the city of rocks national reserve, but I didn’t know anything about Castle rocks state park. They are only a few miles away from one another. Saturday after we checked in we went and hiked the backyard boulders trail in the state park. We brought all of our own food for the trip and in the evening we watched an episode of the good witch.

Sunday morning we Went into the city of rocks and hiked the north part of the circle Creek Trail. Then we went back to the house and listened to some of our gospel study, and then in the afternoon we went and hiked along the castle rocks trail, and that’s where we almost Came across the heffalump. Some of the hikers were literally climbing the granite cliffs and spires with ropes, and we assume that they must have been frightened of the Heffalumps and trying to get away.

Kim and I did not have any ropes, but we did have our trekking poles. Not sure what kind of defense they would be against a Heffalump attack. But we made it back safe. We did more scripture study in the evening and then watched another episode of the good witch.

Monday morning we went on one last hike in the State Park, and got all packed up to head home. Ricky and Pixie were glad to see us.
