D&D didn't get around to a family update ... but not for lack of things going on!
Here's a quick compilation of Facebook posts of some July activities!
Grateful for this country, our freedoms and family. During this time of tensions, division, sickness, and disharmony - I remain grateful for and hopeful this great country. Here’s to family, friends, freedoms (and also food and fireworks). Happy Birthday America - get well soon.
We made this DIY outdoor art/movie screen for $50 and in 5 minutes (the art part anyway) without lifting a paintbrush. It was a fun family project so I did a little video to show how it was made. We LOVE going to movies as a family and COVID has ruined that for us, so we’re trying to be creative by bringing the movie experience to our home. See the step-by-step how-to video.
Love going to the Hogle Zoo with our little animals.
It’s an annual tradition to take a family photo on the Zoo train.
Derek's home has gone to the birds! We got weekly updates on the little nest of robins, and then a hummingbird made a nest on the front porch. Again, Facebook friends and family got to see the evolution of nest/eggs/babies. Crazy! I'll have to get all the photos/footage and do a blog post!
Final hummingbird update: The birds have flown the nest, and the Westras have taken black their porch! We loved all the birds this year, and had a 6 for 6 success ratio (with all four baby robins and 2 baby hummingbirds surviving). The hummingbirds were so cute and fun to watch, but they were SO messy and pooped all over. Our Saturday chores included deep cleaning the whole porch, and removing their nests. Sad to see them go, but glad to have our space back.
Borrowed my Dad’s 92 Toyota Truck for a backyard project. The girls wouldn’t let me return it until we were able to fully use it (Drive-In movie with friends). I remember being 10, when my Dad brought this truck home. I learned to drive a stick shift and to drive in the snow in this 2WD/RWD thing. My buddy Brian and I ran a lawn mowing business for several Summers using this truck to haul our gear. And now - my kids think Grandpa’s truck is THE coolest. ;) 55K original miles and still going!
No better way to celebrate Pioneer Day, than by “trek”ing through the hills with our “polyga-moose” friends. :) #dadjokes This is up Little Cottonwood Canyon by Snowbird. We parked behind Albion Grill and hiked all the way to Cecret Lake. It was beautiful! We parked WAY down and hiked a lot further, but apparently there wasn’t parking higher up due to the huge crowds!
Also, ice-blocking (which seemed way more intense than the last time we went (like 25 years ago!))
July 25 FB post ~ Latergramming pics from Bear Lake this week
as well as another backyard movie night with family.

July 31 FB post - Happy 40th Birthday Harry Potter!
Thanks Lehi City for the Harry Potter swag bags!
Also, foam machine party.
